International/Olympic Roster set

I'm currently working on a roster set that includes a worldwide league. The set will contain countries from all over the world, that according to the IBAF and other information I can track down, have viable baseball leagues, players, teams, etc.

Hopefully, there is interest for such a set. Hopefully, I'll be done fairly soon with it. Just wanted to put it out there to see if people were interested in such a set or had something they wanted to mention before I was done.

The talent gap between good and bad teams is much larger in international competitions than in the MLB. How did you deal with that?

I have no intention of making a USA team with major league players. But that said, you'll have Cuba and places like the Dominican Republic will obviously have higher talent levels, as well as Japan. But if you're talking about the international community as a whole, places like Australia and the Greece team that is made up largely of Americans can be competitive.

Other countries won't be, sure. But they should still play and compete. Who knows what happens if the games aren't played.

Cool

Hey that is a neat idea. Having a World Cup of Baseball for OOTP would be really cool! There's lots of countries that could compete .... Canada, US, Mexico, Dominican Rep., Cuba, Venezuela, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Korea Rep., China ... probably more than that but that's off the top of my head. Some European countries I s'pose, but baseball's not all that big there, yet.

I intend to emphasize minor countries that play baseball, because I think its important to bring these countries into the fold.

So here is the tentative list of countries included in the set:

Conference of the Americas
----------
NORTH
USA
Canada
Mexico
Panama

SOUTH
Venezuela
Colombia
Brazil
Puerto Rico

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
FAR EAST
Australia
Taiwan
Korea
China
Guam
Japan

EURASIA
South Africa
Russia
Germany
Italy
Greece
Netherlands

Actually, baseball is quite big in European countries and growing. Granted, it's not huge like it is here. But I'd figure that baseball is as big there as soccer is in the US - professionally - not in the minors. The players aren't as good and the leaguers aren't as well developed. But in places like The Netherlands and Italy, there are actually established major leagues.

It'll be released sometime next week when I go on spring break, because I'll be able to devote actual time to it.

I think you can add some more teams to the America bracket, namely the Dominican Republic and Cuba. Otherwise, great job. I'm psyched to play around with this set when you're finished.

I meant to put them there. I dunno why I forgot to list them. They're certainly going to be in the AMERICAS conference too. Probably one or two other places.

Sounds really good, darkcloud! How about Aruba as one of the North American/Carribean area teams? For a tiny island such as that, they've produced 3 MLB players (Ponson and a couple others)! Nicaragua might be an idea as well (home of "El Presidente" Dennis Martinez), in addition to Cuba and the Dom. Rep. (as wheelie said).

I had no idea that all those countries (in that web site you listed) had a national baseball federation. Very interesting indeed! The Russians need to work on their defense though; I saw the linescores for some of their league's games and some of them had 10 or more errors by one team. Ouch!

Guam? Wow....I'm actually from Guam, so I can tell you that the talent level from there is pretty damn low. However, I would happy to send you a list of Guamanian surnames if you like.

Furthermore, I'll be looking foward to this roster set

Yeah, the Guamanian team played Australia for the Oceania zone title. The winner of Oceania and Africa play for the last spot in the Olympics. The team almost didn't get to go, because they needed a loan from the government at the last minute. They managed to get it, but they lost to the Aussies.

Australia beat South Africa.

In Germany baseball of course aint really big but we have an established league called Bundesliga. In the top games we have about 1000-2000 spectators. But baseball here is growing and growing. If you look into the German ebay you see tons of baseball stuff. There's even a pure German OOTP online league, the only not english one- as I know.
To have a World Cup OOTP league is a great idea I have thought about many times myself. I'd find it cool to have players in the teams from their real nations and than have a no trade option. For the States I would use mostly Minor league players.
Be an interesting battle between USA, Canada, Japan, Cuba etc.
What do you think about this.
