Talking OOTP Data Generator

This excel workbook allows you an easy way to generate data that can then be imported into OOTP (e.g. names, ratings, origins, uniform numbers, heights, weights, etc). For example, want 90% American names and 10% Latin names? Well with this utility you can do just that, easily.

You can download the 10KB (very small) zip file at:

This looks great, but I am a microsoft excel illiterate. I just don't know how to get things to do what I want. Can someone please explain to me exactly what to do, and how to get the data in the game?

There's a pretty detailed list of directions visible once you open the file. I'll copy it below. It might look intimidating because of the length, but it shouldn't be that difficult. I'm sure many people won't even need to read it. I just like to make directions as detailed as possible for those who might need that. That said, if I can make it better, I will.

***
-Enter the possible data and the frequency you want each to occur at in columns A & B. For example, if you want to generate Canadian cities, type Toronto into cell A2, Montreal into cell A3, etc. Then say you want Toronto to occur 75% of the time, type 75 into cell B2, and Montreal to occur 25% of the time, type 25 into cell B3, etc.
-Press the "Generate Data" button.
-Follow the directions in the windows that appear.
-Press the "Copy Data" button.
-Go to the setup screen in OOTP and export the CSV that contains the data you want to change (e.g. players_general.csv).
-Open the exported CSV in Excel and click on the cell in the second row of the column that contains the data you want to replace.
-Right-click, select "Paste Special", select "Values", and press ok.
-Repeat with any other data you want to change.
-Select the "Height" column, right-click and select "Format Cells", select "Custom" and in the field under "Type" type "M-D", or depending on your configuration, "D-M". This is needed because the format OOTP uses for heights tells Excel that they are dates.
-Save the file. If it asks if you want to keep the format, click "Yes".
-Go back to the setup screen in OOTP and this time import the CSV that contains the data you want to change (e.g. players_general.csv).

This seemed to be exactly what I was looking for, as I want to be able to change the origins of my players to suit my solo league [all home-grown talent from Yorkshire in the UK!]. As far as I am aware, I followed the instructions to the letter, but when I try to reimport the csv file, it crashes the game. Anyone seen this, or got any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

Your Excel settings might be interfering with the validity of the CSV file. I had to change some of my personal Excel settings to stop it from messing up the CSV files I was using it to manipulate.

Which settings would be likely to cause the problem? I use Excel a little at work so I'm not completely computer illiterate, but I'm no expert either! Suggestions would be reatly appreciated.

Thanks satchel. If you let us know which settings are probably causing the problem, I'll add a note about it in the file.
