CatoBase problems with Historical Leagues
When I use CatoBase in my historical league (just FYI, Ted Williams retired after hitting .400 in his last seaseon and with 875 career HR. Just felt like sharing that.) I get a certain error message about every other year when I try to import stats. The message is:
There is a problem importing around line X in the feil \players.csv. The most likely cause is an invalid character in the Nickname of HomeState fields. Open this file in Notepad and uncheck the Word Wrap (under Edit). Examine the above line and surrounding line for any unusual characters and import again. Now, this seems self-explanatory, but I have no idea how to fix it. So, what types of invalid character am I looking for? WHy does it sometimes work and sometimes not, even when the player who had the initial flaw is still in the league? Bottom line, how do I fix it. I hate being unable to import a season and have a gap in my guys careers. |

It happened to me to.. I went through all the players and deleted the players whose nicknames are too long and look like this Ted "The Splendid Splinrr**" Williams or something like that. I'm not very good at explaining things

I am pretty sure in one of ankit's databases he left out the nicknames. That should work. As it is, I have a historical league going and I have inputted the first 5 seasons into CatoBase with no problems with the ankit DB that I am using.

A better way to do it is to find the offending player in the file, then go back to OOTP and edit his nickname in the game. That way, you won't have to repeat this every year until the player retires.

I'm having a similar problem. It's not a historical league though. I get the same error, and when I open the .csv in excel, or notepad, it gives me all kinds of non character text. I'm no expert but it somehow seems to be having problems exporting. All the other .csv files look perfectly fine.
It would be hard to identify the problem though as there's nothing in the csv that would clue me in to which player the problem was coming from Either way, thanks for the cool program. It's really appreciated. |

My guess here would be that the OOTP Version is wrong on the Options screen. Make sure it's set to whatever version of OOTP was used.
