Name Dat File Frequency

I am currently editing the NAME and fname file to include a higher frequency of British names. However, I'm not sure what to do about the numbers behind each name. I would like a more evenly assigned system instead of Smith, Brown, etc. getting all the headlines.

If I were to have a total of 5000 names in the file and assign each a 1, would that create an even selection of names or would it cause my computer processor to catch on fire?

You can do this.. or you can also check out this thread and download the OOTP5 Originator..
davwms' Origin Generator - anyone ever get it to work?

Just experimented with the originator and yes it did supply my league with British and origins. Extraordinary old chap!

Good job davwms! Thanks you saved me alot of work!

Are the UK names in a specific sequence within the us fnames and us lnames files (because I don't see a uk fnames or lnames file in the origin folder)?

Right.. You can set it to create only UK names but changing all of the other countries to '0'. And you can edit the Dat files to your liking.. each name listed has the same chance of appearing. therefore, if you want a name to appear more often, just add in new lines for how often you want it to appear. BTW, if / once you edit the name files to how you want, can you send me a copy? I'm always looking for variation..

Yes, I will ... and it will be varied. Although there will be alot of modern Scottish, Welsh, Irish, and English names, there will be a some out of the ordinary medieval names, old English, Gaelic and a few historical figures such as the late great Jethro Tull who will be playing not only flute during the seventh inning stretch but also leftfield for Wallingford.

Thanks for the program ... saved me alot of time and makes the game even more interesting.
