Need help with team nicknames

If you are from or have been to the U.K., it would be nice.

I'm starting a solo league in England, and using the world stadiums website, I've found 8 cities with large parks in different regions to place teams in.

The following teams have been awarded franchises:

Northern League

Derby
Manchester
Birmingham
Leeds

Southern League

Bristol
London
Southampton
Ipswitch

Are any of these towns/cities famous for anything that would make a good team nickname? If so, I'd love to hear some suggestions.

I should have said that these are mainly English inside jokes.

Would they be offensive or just funny? I was looking for an English angle, so if they aren't offensive I'll take 'em.

Though the Derby Thoroughbreds has a nice ring to it.

Well, I was born in Scotland Chappy, but spent most of my life in Australia. I try to avoid most things English as a result . . . but . . . it's a shame you didn't plunder Newcastle or some of the Northern border areas . . . those guys from way up north by the Scottish borders are commonly called "Jordies."

I'm testing a league based in Australia right now (16 teams, it's tough given the relative lack of large cities in Australia - had to turn off finances).

In order to name minor league teams, I went to Yahoo, scrolled down to the bottom, clicked on Australia/NZ to take me to the Aus/NZ version of Yahoo. Then in the search bar, I entered the name of the city I wanted to find minor league teams for, clicked "seacrh Aus/NZ Only" and searched.

In most cases, I found either the town or city's official website, often which had maps I could explore to find districts to name my minor league squads after. If they didn't, they had tourist attractions or history's I could use.

You may want to try the same thing with Yahoo UK (http://uk.yahoo.com/).

By the way, I used DAVWM's origin generator to generate 75% Australian origins for the initial player pool, set to larger balances of pacific rim (due to Australia's location) and british names (heritage) origins - it worked like a charm. I'm just about to test it with the first ammy draft.

None of the ones I posted would be thought of as offensive.

Thanks for the help everyone. I ended up changing the angle a little; I took the 12 largest metro areas in England (I later dumped the 12th and placed 2 franchises in London), then used world stadiums to find ballparks in each town. Of course, the capacity would be different for baseball (most of them were home to football clubs), but it gave me an idea of the park size.

Then, I took some of the suggested nicknames from above, and also used Davids method of evploring the region via Yahoo! which gave me some pretty nice names.

If I can find some time between my 3 online leagues and the rest of my work, I'll see if I can post updates about this league in the Dynasties forum.

By the way Mal, what is a brummie? I used the name, because it just sounds so British. But what is it?

Noob here from England, thought they were some good suggestions! Just one thing though, there ain't a T in Ipswich

And a Brummie is slang for somebody from Birmingham; like Geordie = a person from Newcastle and Scouser = a person from Liverpool.
