Utilities and Add-ons

Can someone explain the significance of all the utilities and add-ons that are available. I dont play in an online league and i dont use real roster nor do i do a historical league. I simply do a custom ficitonal league. Is there any reason/need for these utilities for me?

WAY too many I think for this to be done, but I've moved this to it's proper location and I'd dare say if you took a look around at some of the topics concerning the add-on's you'd get a good idea if it is something you might be interested in. Far and away I'd say the majority of the add-ons are not primarily for online leagues.

One add-on you'll definitely want to look into is Catobase. If you enjoy keeping detailed history of any league (real or fictional, online or solo), you'll want Catobase. It's like having baseball-reference.com for your own league. Jeff Cato's put in a tremendous amount of work lately to get it working even better than it used to, and much easier to set up. And he's very very helpful if you do run into problems.

Here are a few:
Facepacks would give you the ability to have player photos for your players

Stickware Schedule Generator expands on the scheduling ability of the game

Logos obviously give you the opportunity to insert whatever team logo you would like

Stadium packs give you some variety on the ballparks for your league

Point is, there are add-ons that have been created by members of the community for just about any possible situation. It's up to YOU to decide what you may or may not want to include in your experience.

Stadiums created by Teflon are always useful for fictional leagues. Teflon's website is down, you are search on this site for Teflon and you should find all of them. You can also follow the link in my signature and then goto the "Coast to Coast Stadiums", those are all Teflon stadiums that I use for a fictional league.

The other utility I highly recommend is the Stickware Schedule Generator, it will make your schedules alot more realistic.

Not being on the Internet while it's running for starters.

But seriously, turning off anti-virus software and generally not doing much else while it's cranking away will help a bit.

and if this is this first time running it will take awhile. you can edit options so only the current season will output and that speeds it up as well. also not producing yearly RH/LH splits will reduce the time it takes.

I'm scared to run Catobase for the first time, cause I have a feeling my laptop is gonna overheat and shut off. Which it likes to do at very inconvienent times, like when I'm simming in OOTP or playing any game besides OOTP. Or you know...just sitting here doing nothing. It's a wonderful piece of ****, really.

Catobase is great but...

I am in year 127 of my fictional league and play about 10 season before I create the html pages. The last time I did this is took 33 hours to complete. I had no programs running and no antivirus programs. I guess I should just create the the html for the current season only and do it after each year or move the database to a second computer so that I can play while the stats are being updated into the html pages.....

Just a thought but...

If we could get an option to only output current players (just as we have a Current Year Only option for league pages), it could help out these super-dynasty leagues. The only problems I can see would be that the similar batters/pitchers and career leaderboard placements wouldn't be updated, but you could just run the whole kit-and-kaboodle every ten years or so (like SandMan does now) so they don't get too far behind.
