Player image index 93% of ALL BIG LEAGUERS 1871-2004
1st, thanks to Dark Horse for pointing me to SABR
I found the link and I do not have Excel so I don't know if the .xls files are just names or have pics in it... Could someone see? If so...I think a quick pop with Batch thumbs will help change player photos to work with OOTP http://www.sabr.org/sabr.cfm?a=cms,c,528,5,0 and Henry...could you sticky this thread...since I feel Eck, TF, dark horse...and myself, along with others might get the ultimate historic facepack out of this...even if I have to email Bill Hickman and get a disk for it...I WILL have 93% of players faces for OOTP! |

I'm having trouble downloading the spreadsheet but the way I am reading this is they have basically just catalogued where you can find pictures of 93% of the ballplayers from MLB. The site you linked does not actually possess the photos. It's telling you what newspaper or what magazine you can grab to locate a picture of obscure players.

The spreadsheet is just a listing of all the players pics they have and information about the pictures. Like where it can be found, what uni the player has on, players D.O.B., kind of shot it is and color. It doesn't look like there's really any way to see all the pictures unless you hunt them down using the database.

Still, if you're missing a few players, and haven't had any luck in finding them, knowing where to look is half the battle, so it could be quite helpful.
I ended up doing something similar when I created a list of every single minor league schedule published in The Sporting News weekly issues that I could find. That list, incidentally, has 1406 entries on it at the moment. Now, if there's ever a league I want to find, and it's on the list, I'll know exactly where to look to find it. As I said, knowing where to look is half the battle.

Ahhh, GI Joe... I'm glad to see he's back at his full, tall self rather than the puny size they gave him during the 1980's. I still miss the old Kung-Fu grip though, the new one just doesn't seem as good. The lack of his old scar and facial hair is unfortunate... perhaps he's had facial reconstructive surgery in the intervening years...

They even had Sixto Lezcano on their list of missing players. Seeing as how they are even including baseball cards as sources for photos, I'm surprised they couldn't come up with one of him.
