How much do I make a difference?

I'm a newbee and unfortunately my favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians of the mid 70's. If I manage the Tribe for a replay, do I have any chance of going to the World Series? I just wanted to know how much being the human manager makes a difference in this game so I can prepare for the last place finishes. Thanks

This would probably get more play if in the OOTP6 Discussions forum.

Once you established a league for the 1970s, presumably by importing from a database, a lot can happen. Players can develop and change differently than they did in real life. Babe Ruth can become a relative bust, Felix Fermin can become a star. (Those may be extreme examples as there are some limits ) OOTP aims to create more of an alternative universe than some other games that aim to recreate history more exactly. Sounds like you would like at least the possibility of differences, so that is probably a positive for you.

It may or may not appeal to you, but you have the opportunity to make roster changes also. Maybe by adding by trade or free agent signings you can add a couple of players and have a great upsurge. Most human managers/GMs will have some advantages over the AI, but you can set this at a level you like through some game settings like trade difficulty or on your own through house rules. Plus luck always plays a factor - you can have really good or really bad seasons rather out of the blue.

So, yeah, you can make a difference, but it is tough to say how much of one. That's part of why playing is fun IMO.

My suggestion would be not to waste your time on a replay. Just start a career league and enjoy developing your team and eventually taking them to a World Series win! Given enough time you will win the World Series. The game allows teams to win that would normally never have a chance. Even the Cubs and Red Sox win the World Series once in awhile!!!

Very true. However, the White Sox cannot.
