CatoBase Problem - Importing Error

When I click on import stats I get the following message:
There is a problem importing around line 1225 in the file \players.csv.

The most likely cause is an invalid character in the Nickman or Homestate field.

I opened the partial players.csv file created by the utility in excel and line 1225 is Herb Pennock. There is an unusual character in his nickname.
Here is the problem. Normally I go into the game itself OOTP6 and edit the players nickname there. But this time the player(Pennock) is not there. I am at the proceed to next season stage in the game. I tried the Unretire Utility but he is not there. Do I have to edit the DAT file? I really don't know how to.

Hmmm... strange that he's not there at all... He can't have retired yet, because that happens during the "Proceeding to Next Season" processing... and even guys with career ending injuries show up on my Free Agents list...

Go to League Setup / Misc. Setup and hit 'Display All Players of League'... if he's not in there, the easiest thing to do would be to just edit the players.csv manually, then in Catobase under Options, uncheck the "Run Exporters..." box and point the Data Directory to the folder where your players.csv (and the other CSVs) are located. (C:something\something\data\2004 or similar)

If you have any problems, just post here again... good luck!

Thanks for the help. I would now just like to delete the nicknames altogether from the Lahman master.csv file so I don't keep having this problem. But, when I clear them out in Excel, I get a message while importing rookies that says rookies not found. Is there a certain way to edit the Lahman files?

I used to have this problem quite often, but not anymore since the last Catobase update. I also remeber that the line named in the error message was incorrect often and that indeed the line before was the cause of the problem.
So check that you have the latest catobase version or take a look at record 1224 and delete any unusual characters there.
If the problem persists, visit Catobase`s website . From there you can send your flawed files to Cato himself and he will look at it.

Not sure but when "clearing" them out of Excel make sure that you don't delete the column, just delete the data. You can blank out the nickname column (and some of the others too) but I believe OOTP expects there to be a field in that column. If you delete the column, then then the data shifts to the left, so it may be trying to read the rookie year info from the wrong column.
