Making a stadium to use for the game
With the logo contest that's going on, I thought it would be neat to make a package of stadiums to go with it. So, I looked for some images of PGE Park in Portland, and found some nice ones. I could just leave it as is, and fix the coordinates for use in the game, and possibly even put the winning logo in the upper left hand corner or something. But, is there anything else that could be done to improve it? Does anyone know if it's possible to render a picture like this into more of a drawing using something like PS? Would that even make it better?
What are things that you would like to see to make a stadium a good one?

That's a nice stadium pic knuckler. I however don't go for the "real" look though. I love the look of Teflon's stadiums the best although I have not the slightest clue on how to make stadiums like that.

Yeah, I kind of like that look myself, but I'm not capable of doing anything like that. I wonder if it's possible to render a photo into something more like a drawing. Of course it would never be possible for me to recreate Teflons's stuff, but I'm just seeking ideas about wht would be the best kinds of stadiums to include in a package to go with the logos. I might just end up leaving it as is, and fixing up the coordinates.

I think this is a very fine stadium picture. I have all of Teflon Skies stadium and love them. But if someone did a series like this and they looked like this in the game, I definitely would use them. I think it is a great idea you have to create a stadium for each of the teams that will be in this logo project package. If you can't fine photos of all the real stadiums, just use some of the better photographs you find and use them...these will be fictional teams.
There is a site that gives tours of stadiums...sorry,don't remember the name of it. I will let you know if I can find it. The great thing about your stadiums is that they would be minor league stadiums...something we don't have in OOTPB. We really need some new stadiums. I have more than 50 and had to use some stadiums that were really not quite what I wanted in my second fictional league, but had no choice...I had to use them. If this shows up well in OOTPB, I would like this photograph stadium as much as one created like it is a drawing or a painting. Why don't you e-mail BigCity...I think that is Henry, who designed a lot of stadiums...I'll bet he will give you some great pointers on how to create stadiums or how to use the photographed stadiums. I think we really need new stadiums for OOTP, actually more than anything else.
Teflon Skies stadiums are awesome but I really like realistic stadiums more. A set of Minor league stadiums would be awesome. Maybe also a set of Japanese stadiums which we could use in our fictional leagues. If you want to use real stadiums for a modern league you really don't really have any set I know of. Does anybody know a page of Japanese or other foreign baseball stadiums ? |

This is the only japanese stadium I found via google. Wouldn't a set of these be great for Fictional leagues ?

The problem I've found in attempting to create some new stadiums is that you need pictures that show things at juuuuuuuuust the right angle. You can't be looking down on the field and then looking up at the background for example. It's especially hard to find pictures that show enough of the crowd at the right angle.

A tidbit some of you might be interested in...EA's MVP 2005 will have a create-a-stadium feature. I'm willing to bet that since that's included, there must be some way to get a full view of the stadium to take a nice, neat pic of your creation (albeit with some 3rd-party software).
Give it a few months, and I'm sure when it's out, we'll be stocked with all kinds of creations. |

Well, if enough pictures from real stadiums were available and all were taken from approximately the same angle and at the same time of day, it should be possible to then mix and match elements of these real-world stadiums to create new ones.
The tricky part is of course is having the appropriate stadium photos.

It's not a problem getting pictures, it's getting the RIGHT pictures.
Like this. Fine picture but practically useless for making a stadium.

I don't know if this will help but here is a link to a database of stadium photos.

Well, that and what people's preferences are. I tried setting the coordinates for the Portland Stadium above, and it's a lot of work. I don't mind one doing the work, but I don't know what people's preferences are for where the stuff should line up.

I’m going to update the league with a post from each team as the city/nicknames are announced.
I’m adding real pics of stadiums that correspond to the city. I will adjust the coordinates as best I can for each one. If I post the dimensions, could someone who has the utility that generates park factors please report what they would be? I would really appreciate any help in that area. Also, I know that some people prefer to use the Teflon style images for their stadiums, so I was thinking I could include a stadium file that would utilize them as well. But, I would need help from you all as to which of his stadiums you feel would best fit each locale. I also am using the weather file from ootp 4 I believe, and it lists the wind direction as SE for instance. I might need some help determining how to convert that. One last question I have is I am currently using the real life stadiums for each city. But, I noticed that some of them maybe a tad bit boring. I also noticed that there are some stadiums out there that might look god with a particular city even though it’s not the correct stadium. For instance, here is a pic from Norfolk, which would work really well with Portland, IMO. The river beyond the OF fence and the shipping cranes would definitely fit into a Portland theme. What are your opinions on that? Do you like PGE better?
