LOGO DESIGNERS: Deadline is Tueday 11:59 pm for logo entry
Designers are reminded you have about 24 hours (Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm Tuesday) to get your logo/logos in for the judging. It will start sometimes Wednesday, when jnshmoo posts all of the entries. We will vote for two days and then announce the first "Favorite" logo.
Then Friday we will post the second city and nickname to be created and begin the process again. Hopefully we will do this for 20 weeks and get some real fine logos that will be packaged and compiled and uploaded to JoeRock's and BigCity's websites for download purposes for the OOTPB Community. |

Just a small update, fellas. In the event that there is a rush of entries as the deadline nears, we may be trying the multi-round vote that I suggested in the earlier thread.
I've discussed this with LL, and we'd like to try to keep the process contained here at the OOTP board as much as possible. This way, we'll have everything saved for posterity assuming that SI keeps this place open. I have already received 13 entries from 11 different contestants. Technically it was 14, but one entry contained an identical logo with and without the Portland name on it. I chose to only use the version with the Portland name, and will post the alternate after the vote ends. This means that if I receive more than two more logos by the deadline tonight, we'll be over the 15 item limit for our poll. What I will do if we do go over is post two polls as a first round. Then I will take the top X number of vote getters in a final poll. What we will need to decide now is how long to run the polls and how many finalists do we go with? I could run the first round for 2 days and then the finals for an additional 2 days, and then we'll just have our announcement of the winner a little late. I don't think that would be a problem though. As for number of finalists, I'm thinking either 5 or 10. Obviously I could go to 15, but if there are say, 17 total entries, it wouldn't seem to make sense only eliminating 2 entries in the first round. Anyway, what are everyones thoughts on this?

You need to contact LivnLegend and see how he wants to handle this. I would like the vote to be over by Thursday, so we can post the second one on Friday. This way we can keep a same schedule each week:
Post the new city/nickname on Friday. Designers will have more time on the weekend to do their designs than during the week. (allow 4 days to design them) Post all the entries on Wednesday for the vote. (allow two days for the vote) Vote on Wednesday and Thursday...if you have to have two polls...allow only one day for the first round and one day for the second round. I would say take the top 10 votegetters or 50% of the entries and put them in the playoff if you have to do a playoff poll. Suggestion: place the entries in the order you received them as far as which poll they go in, if we have to have two polls. I would split them equally...that is, if you have 14 entries, place seven in each poll. Try to reach LivnLegend and get him to make a decision. Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-18-2005 at 04:11 PM. |

Just asking of course, couldn't the next logo be put up once the polls are underway? We don't actually have to wait for a winner to be declared to post the next round, do we? Not trying to step on anyone's toes, just wondering.

Maybe we should start some predictions threads as well, not unlike the ones sometimes seen in the Talk Sports forum.
I'll start. I predict that my version will come in third, perhaps fourth. I could even make second with a fortuitous splitting of votes amongst the other candidates. In any case, the number of entries sure shot up quickly.

10 was what I was thinking of for the finals as well. I have already begun the process of queueing the logos. What I have done is take each logo as it arrives and rename it PortlandTimberjacksXX where the XX starts at 01 and continues to the final entry. This way all logos will still remain completely anonymous until the totals are in and I make the announcement. Ok. Here is my current (tentative) gameplan: 1. Tomorrow morning I will post two polls named Heat 1 and Heat 2. I will set the poll to run for 1 day. 2. After the polls expire, I will take the top 10 vote getters and enter them in a Finals poll. Hopefully we'll arrive at a consensus on the length of time on this poll. I would still like to go with 2 days if possible. We can still announce the second logo on friday as planned. 3. After the final poll has expired, I will post the results and reveal the artist behind each submission. Good Luck everyone! As of this moment, we are sitting at exactly 15 logos.

I think you should make the decisions concerning the polls...a benevolent dictator is the best form of government...it is just take too long sometimes to get answers. I don't see any problem with announcing the new city while the vote is going on...they will be two different threads and shouldn't cause any confusion. It is just to communicate to the designers so they know what to do. Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-18-2005 at 07:05 PM. |

By the way, I would suggest putting a voting announcement in both the main OOTP forum and in OT as well, since both of those areas get the highest traffic. We should do everything possible to mobilize the population to get out and vote.

I think the polls should be posted in the OT since its probably the most busy section fo the forum. What do you guys think?
By the way here's another question, I have 3 aliases here at the forum, Can I vote for myself 3 times then?
