LOGO DESIGNERS: "FAVORITES COMPILATION" #5 OTTAWA OTTERS

LOGO DESIGNERS: LOGO #5 FOR THE "FAVORITES COMPILATION"

OTTAWA OTTERS

OTTERS was chosen because the sound of the name flows very euphonically and alliteratively with OTTAWA and the otter is found along rivers throughout Canada and North America...

You may find this interesting:

http://www.luddist.com/otter.htm

If you would like to design a logo, you have until Midnight Tuesday at 11:59 pm CST (USA) to e-mail it to jnshmoo. You may submit more than one logo...but please make them distinctly different from each other...and not just slight variations of the same logo.

HIS E-MAIL ADDRESS: ootplogo at jnshmoo.us
(You will have to take out the "spaces" and add the real "at" symbol...this is to cut down on spam to jnshmoo)

IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A RECEIPT CONFIRMATION OF YOUR ENTRY WITHIN 24 HOURS, CONTACT JNSHMOO BY PM (PRIVATE MESSAGE). YOU SHOULD ALSO RESEND YOUR ENTRY TO HIM.

IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THAT YOU GET YOUR ENTRY IN PRIOR TO THE LAST 24 HOURS OF THE ENTRY DEADLINE.

Size: 150 x 150 pixels

JPG FORMAT

RULES: DO NOT USE ANY EXISTING PRO SPORTS LEAGUES LOGOS.
A designer cannot use an already existing professional logo in the logo design and creation...it must be a new creation.
The time zone is Central Standard Time in the USA...my time zone.
DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR LOGO: 11:59 PM CST TUESDAY
For the time zone challenged, Midnight Central Time on Tuesday is:
(COMPLIMENTS OF THE TIMELESS WONDER, LE GRANDE ORANGE)

9:59 p.m. Pacific on Tuesday
10:59 p.m. Mountain on Tuesday
11:59 p.m. Central on Tuesday
12:59 a.m. Eastern on Wednesday
1:59 a.m. Atlantic on Wednesday
5:59 a.m. GMT on Wednesday

Sorry you prefer something connected to the city...Here is the composite list we started with to make the final selection...all of these names were considered...we try to tie in the city's history, culture and heritage most of the time...but occasionally will select something that just sounds good together...as in OTTawa OTTers.

It should be a fine mascot, too. (Otty/Ottie the Otter).

Here are the names we started with and considered for a week:

1) Otters
2) Warriors
3) Regals
4) Parliaments
5) Mounties
6) Monarchs
7) Warhawks
8) Solons
9) Diplomats
10) Emeralds
11) Whirlwinds
12) Arrows
13) Ballhawks
14) Beavers
15) Brigades
16) Canal Cats
17) Capitals
18) Capitales
19) Citizens
20) Crowns
21) Confederates
22) Elites
23) Majestics
24) Excaliburs
25) Federals
26) Moose
27) Musketeers
28) Regents
29) Rivercats
30) Settlers
31) Terrors
32) Tomahawks
33) Traders
34) Trappers
35) Wallopers
36) Whoppers
37) Banners
38) Bucks
39) O-Sox
40) O-Soxx
41) O'Sox
42) O'Soxx
43) Pennants

We posted a thread about the Favorite Logo Project on the Main OOTPB Forum and asked for cities w/nicknames suggestions and used that to come up with the 20 cities we will use.

We got about 200 suggestions.

Sorry you missed that thread.

Capitols would be a fine name, too.

Oh man, a concept for this nickname just cries out for the inclusion of an otter, but alas I have zero drawing skills when it comes to animals or people, or plain everyday objects for the most part, so I'm pretty much dead in the water on this one.

I'm willing to bet too that Cuss will put something together that will absolutely nail it.

Here's hoping I get some kind of brainstorm before next Tuesday...

LGO, you can do a logo without an otter and it will still be in the running for the best one...as I learned several logos ago...half of all MLB logos don't have a baseball connection...and a lot of them probably don't use a mascot or figure...and LGO doesn't need a figure to make a fine logo, either.

Yeah, Cuss will come up with a great Otter image...but the other designers have their strong points, too.

Who says I am going to do an otter? Who says I am even going to do anything? I miss one before I can miss one again.

True, but for some names there just seems to be a natural connection as opposed to other names which seem more "generic" in nature.

For example, "Giants" or "Twins" or "Nationals" don't really have anything which conjures up an automatic association, at least not to me, so a non-figure logo seems a very viable option. But with something like "Otters" or "Mustangs" or "Tigers" an association to a figure seems a pretty natural and straightforward connection.

Anyway, thanks for that link to the web site about otters. There were a couple of pics there which should be helpful in perhaps getting an otter figure put together.

Well, perhaps you won't. But this particular name just seems right up your alley for the kind of style you do in your logos.

Then again, perhaps we'll suprise everyone - I'll knock out something with a figure and you'll go the circular logo route...

You are right...with an animal nickname, you almost have to include the animal.

Here is another picture:

When you don't put an entry in, we lose one fine logo.

Hope you will participate in all of the Favorites competitions...16 more to go.

Now go catch you an otter.

Catch two and send LGO one.

When he doesn't put an entry in, then others actually have a chance to come in higher than second.

A long weekend with nothing to do. As I understand, it's not too late to make my first logo appearance. Correct?
