Auto Career Stats Utility

Hello, I've been browsing around a whole bunch of OOTP sites looking for a utility that will generate career stats for fictional players for a fictional league. I just started a 32-team league with fictional players that I'm planning on playing for several seasons. It's working great except that it's a little unsatisfying seeing 30-year-old allstars who have no historical stats. Also, when those players retire their career numbers will be very low even though they are the top players in the league. This means that they won't get into the hall of fame; plus, they'll get shortchanged in terms of career records.

What I'm looking for is a program that will take all of the veteran players in the game and give them some career stats to start with. I know that the game generates MLB service for each player, so there's a guideline as to how many seasons' worth of stats to give them. Then, it would have to have an algorhythm for reverse-player-progression that takes their current ratings and gradually reduces them as you go back in time to simulate the player's stats.

Does anyone know if such a program exists somewhere, and if so, where can I find it? If not, maybe someone would be interested in undertaking a little project? (Sheepish but hopeful look)

If all else fails, I might try M. Pierre Page's career editor and do it all by hand. I'm just hoping that there's a program out there that will do it all automatically, since my league has about 3200 players.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

There is no utility for this, I was looking at this at one point. Even if it meant just putting stats into CATOBASE. What I do now is just look at the league having a start date and that some of the players were playing in outside leagues and came into my league at a later age.

That would be the same as what is happening in MLB now with the influx of Japanese and other foreign players. When it comes time to the HOF I look at the players career stats and look at what a player with their stats would or should have done at an earlier age and then I just put them into my HOF and consider them "Pioneers" of the league.

If you were to give players stats what I would do is to take their career and find someone in the Lahman database that has similar stats from the age selected on, then just give them stats similar to actual player taken from the database. This will give you a lot of fluctuation on the pre-league stats....of course you would need to probably input this using the career editor and do each player individually.

One workaround would be to create a league, sim 10 seasons, then delete all the teams (but keeping the division structure) and the record books, and you'll have players with 10 year histories but a new fictional setup.

This is something I considered as well. Only difficulty would be the pocessing time on my old machine. Another advantage to this approach is that you can make the league as old as you want/as your machine can handle. So, I could start a fictional league that already has X Years of history, which would make it easier to get to know some of the teams and players going in and give the league more "character." (The question on everyone's mind going into the first 'real' season: Can Team A Three-peat as Champions???)

Definitely worth looking in to, although I'm a bit ambivalent right now. THe other big question mark is the market sizes, as I've put quite a lot of effort into generating realistic initial financial data, which would get wattered down over 10+ seasons (In my experience the markets tend to average out over time, but maybe that's just me.) So I would have to sim 1 season at a time and adjust the financials at the end.

Well, maybe I'll give it a whirl tonight when I have a little time.

Thanks for the tips.

Urgg... Nope, I can't do it. I've spent the last couple of days getting attached to the league and now I'm stuck with it. I think what I'll do is add some career stats manually. But instead of just doing it in one sitting, I'll do it one team at a time as I watch the games. I might even only add histories for the top players in the league. Next time, though, I'll be a little bit wiser.
