CATO and Contraction
Anyone ever done this? Used CATO for a few years, then contracted your league?
If so, were there any issues you had to deal with? TIA.......

I have also had instances where somehow the link between the old franchise location and new location became broken, and didn't experience any problems. They just looked like two different franchises, but everything was complete for both.

We've run contraction in our league twice with no problems. The nice thing about CATObase is it doesn't use the team id's from OOTP, but it uses the team abbreviation instead. If you wanna take a look at a CATObase after contraction, look at www.fast.ootp-online.com/catobase/index.html. Click on the teams link and at the bottom you'll see that Baltimore, Detroit, Philadelphia, Portland, San Diego, and Seattle were all contracted.

I have done contractions and expansion, and I have never had problems with CATOBASE. You just have to remember not to use the same team abbreviations. I had Waukesha, Wausau, and Wauwatosa in my Wisconsin League - OOTP assigned WAU to each team. To get this to work in CATO I had to change the abbreviations to WAK, WAS, WAW. Also, if you add teams in the future do not use the previous used abbreviations. CATOBASE will link the team with the previous team with this abbreviation. Learned this by experience - had a Chicago team, shifted the franchise to Indy. Two years later added a Chicago team in expansion. CATOBASE freaked because of the circular reference to the original Chicago team.....changed the abbreviation to CHG and all was fine...
Also remember that if you change cities but want to keep a franchise affiliation to use the CATOBASE program to link the franchises..... Last edited by SandMan; 02-21-2005 at 12:51 PM. |
