Fav's Comp

Why don't you submit logos in the Logo Favorites competion?
EC, there are a couple of reasons why I haven't done any logo's "yet" for Fav's Comp.

1) Time. To come up with an idea from scratch and not being able to use other logo's takes time. Where as to create a logo for someone using an existing logo doesn't take nearly that much time. So while I am slow at work I do my thing and try to create logo's for people in need. Not to mention I don't have my home PC hooked up yet, so I am pretty much computer-less after work hours.

2) Creativity. That whole coming up with an original idea thing gets me. I had an Otters logo designed, but never submitted it, since I wasn't happy enough with it (then I never had the time to go back and finish it up). If the right logo comes along, and I get that vision, I do plan on going for it, I just haven't had that vision yet.

I will try to get one in soon...I should have my home p/c up and running this weekend (hopefuly).

As always, thanks for the kind words, your opinion is always welcome...

I'll second that, and say thanks again

I was expecting you to just take the flag pole structure from the top. I really like the way you've used the shape of the whole building.

I was thinking I would have to do something like this. I'd seen the templates around before. Thanks for saving me the trouble of asking where they are

I was thinking of doing a diagram of the shape of each ballpark as well, with dimensions etc. I also prefer seeing baserunners on a diamond, it's slightly easier to see what's going on. Does anyone know of a template that uses that sort of approach?

Funny should ask. This is a link to a sample "Glass" ballpark. http://www.silverscreentest.com/koal...toldiamond.jpg
See also New "Glass" Ballpark Layout

The template is in a Photoshop format at the OOTP Download Center.

I was actually thinking of diagrams more similar to the one here

There are some good ideas in the thread you pointed out though. I like the idea of having retired numbers and championships with the ballpark.

Here's the second one.

Another park favouring right handers, but fairly small all round.

I'm using a random ball park generator from ootpdownloadcenter.com and then making up wall shapes to match the distances. There are some more conventional shapes to come (and parks for lefties). I've started with the weird shapes, as they're more interesting to do

Great idea...

lstephen666 - I really like that idea on how to display the fields.

How do you draw the fields?

I actually hand write SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) files. As I'm a programmer a bit of XML doesn't scare me, and it allows me to get the field dimensions exact. I use 1 pixel per ft. The distances of everything should be close to spot on.

I then use a SVG editor to export these graphics to SVG. Unfortunately Gimp doesn't support 100% of the SVG format or I would use that. I don't know how photoshop does with SVG files, as I don't have it.

If you are interested in the SVG files I can post one here.

lstephen - Wow! Those are definitely my favorite stadiums I have seen yet! Do they take long to make? If you have the time, I'd LOVE to see a whole set (28 or 30 or whatever) available for download at the ootpdownload center.

Very nice job!!

Thanks.

The trouble with making them is finding the spare time at the moment
They tend to take as long as I have. Given more time there can be more complex wall shapes.

There will definately be the 8 stadiums for this Australian league. When they are done I will make them available around the place. After that I don't know. Any requests?

Hi all,

Here is a template created from the files that I used to create the ballparks above. A few things to note:
  1. I have changed the extension to .txt to allow it to be uploaded here. Conventionally it would be .svg
  2. I edit these files by hand, not with a graphical SVG editor. I only use the editor to export these files to png. (btw, I use inkscape)
  3. I have placed comments throughout the file to aid with the editing of these files, but I assume a knowledge of SVG and XML.
  4. This file will not display correctly as it references two other images (the background and the logo). You would change these images anyway.
Let me know if you get stuck when working with these files. I'll try and help where I can.
