Ok there is just too much information

I am sorry, I am not computer literate, I would like step-by-step instructions on how to make an asian league file. I only want to run one league so it is cool if all the players have asian name.

Please explain to me like I was a child. Please don't assume I know what you mean.

I am looking for instructions like this:

1. Open c:/program files/outside the park developements/ootp6
2. Open Data Folder
3. Right Click names.dat, rename anames.dat.

Like that.

I would like to have Asian names and Asian origins. I have been all over this board and there are plenty of generators, I just don't know how to use them. That is why I need the instructions. I have found a way to change the names, but it had like Kaz Matsui ORIGIN: USA. So I am confused. Please help.

The easiest way I've found to do this is to use davwms' OOTP Originator. It comes with name files for Taiwan, China and Japan. All you need to do is set the percentages, e.g. Japan 55%, Taiwan 25% and China 20%, and hit originate and it will change the names and origins at the same time.

You can download it here: http://www.pt-sports.com/OOTP/
The discussion thread for it is here: http://ootpdevelopments.com/board/sh...ad.php?t=66768 (It's a pretty long thread, though.)

I have downloaded that and I have read the thread. I am still lost. When you say change the percentages, I don't even know how to do that, so I will still need step by step instructions.

1. Download file
2. Open in Excel
3. Go to ....

Like that

from there
Open OOTP

like that. I really am slow on computers. Please provide instructions on how to do anything.

Hmm, that is still too advanced for me.

Where do I download it too? How often do I have to do this? Every year? Or can I make it so OOTP automatically changes orgins every year? I am serious, I am worse than a child I really need to be walked through it.

Instructions-n-stuff (from readme file)

INSTRUCTIONS: (Read this carefully. Consider yourself warned!)

Extract contents of the zip file to your league folder. This will create a new folder named OriginData, along with the executable. The OriginData folder will house all of the necessary data files.

• Back-up your league. (Again.. Consider yourself warned!)

Within OOTP6, click on FILE and chose BACK UP LEAGUE. Then chose where you want to save it and the name to save it under.

• Export your player data.

From within OOTP6, go to league set up, click on Misc Set up and then click on EXPORT PLAYER GENERAL INFO TO CSV. This creates a file the utilty works on and contains all your current players.

• Exit the game

You can actually just minimize it so it is easier to do the last step.

• Run the Originator!

Browse to your league folder, make sure that you see the file name player_general.csv. DO NOT OPEN THIS FILE IN EXCEL or any other spreadsheet program. You can open it in notepad, but be carefull if you make any changes at all. (no need to open it at all)

Double click on OOTP_Originator.exe to start it. Now, you can make any changes to the settings. The numbers in the small 'windows' besides each origin represent how often that origin will be used compared to the others. The percentages in red will change to better show you what chance each origin has to be used.

Once you are satisfied with your settings, click on ORIGINATE! After just a few seconds you will hear a beep sound. (In later versions, you will get a nitification window that the program has completed.) You can now click on the X in the upper right hand corner to close the program. Now the CSV file exported above has been revised.

• Import Your Player Data

Go back to the game. If you did not close the game, you can now just click on IMPORT PLAYER GENERAL INFO FROM CSV. Once that is done, you can browse the rosters and see the changes!

I suspect this will affect all new players coming into the league as well, but someone else would have to confirm that.

If this is still to complex, your going to have to spend some time finding out what directories are, where they are, etc. To write a step-by-step set of instructions would take way too much time

What Al said.

Also, you will need to run this every year after amateurs have been generated. The program will only update the players with a generic origin (e.g. USA); so, it won't change the names of players that have been previously modified.
