I Am Clueless

This is my first time playing OOTP and must say that this is far more complex than I ever imagined. What sold me on the idea of purchasing this was the idea that I could create teams with historical players. However, it seems like I can only play an entire league from a particular historical year. I also thought that I could import information from baseball-reference.com rather than the Lahman csv format. If anyone can tell me how to import individual players rather than the entire 1961 season, please clue me in as to how I can, I haven't noticed any information on this in the manual. Thanks.

Right now I don't think that's possible but I could be mistaken.

Thats not the answer that I was hoping to hear, but at least you gave me one. I have asked this question in other forums and heard absolutely nothing. I am pretty bummed considering I asked Markus this question prior to pre-ordering the game and he told me that it was possible. I think I should have left out that his response was going to weigh heavily on whether or not that I bought the game. Thanks again.

Well, like I said, I could be mistaken. I was on the text team so I wasn't really focused on that part of the testing. Some customization manuals are being worked on to go as companions with the main manual that might help you. I wouldn't give up just yet.

It's possible. Create a fictional league. Turn financials off and get in commissioner mode. Delete the fictional players. Import and sign the players from the free agent screen. A lot of work, but possible.

Well, strictly speaking, when you create a historical league you are creating teams with historical players - the players who were on that team historically.

You wanted to actually customize that by deciding just who would be on what teams and when.

I think perhaps there was a bit of a misunderstanding at work here.

So let me attempt to understand this. All of the actual historical MLBers are on the free agent screen of a fictional league? A lot of work, but if that is what I'd have to do, then it would be worth it. Its not like the game would become "outdated" to me when the next version comes out. The amount of time spent would be done only once and its not like the stats of Joe Morgan or Jack Chesbro would change. I'll definitely look into it. Thanks a lot.
