A Question about the Minors and the DL

I have a question. I was manging a double A squad, and one of my players suffered a severe injury, he was out for eight months. When I tried to put him on the DL, the tab was not available. But, when I tried via the Major League team, the DL tab was there, but it would not allow me to put him on any DL. Am I doing something wrong, or is the DL only for use in the Major League Divison? Thanks.

which kinda sucks for 40-man purposes. it would be nice to 60-day them and get them off the 40-man
