Thumbs down Mac Version - not ready for prime time

Hi All,
I was thrilled to see a Mac version at all for baseball simulation and have been trying out OOTP having previously run Windows versions of OOTP (prior to running screaming from Windows). So far not a good experience:

Concerns:
1. Speed - On a G4 512Meg IMac - 1 full minute to start up the game and then a very poky, cumbersome and obviously non-mac gui. It really looks like an emulated interface. Perhaps I'll get used to it but if the interface is that alien to the Mac - why bother? Just have people run it in emulation and get rid of the elicense restrictions that made the earlier versions unrunnable under Virtual-PC

2. Non Universal Binary - If I put it on my mini-duo, I'm afraid it will be slower still running under Rosetta. If I get the game working, I may give it a go.

3. I chose to delete a season and it painfully erased files one by one from the entire season taking several minutes - it was a season I had just created. Why doesn't it just wipe out a folder? Is a 5 minute file by file deletion necessary to get rid of an entire season?

Questions/problems with install:
1. I imported 1980 since I'm a suffering Phillies fan using the CSV lahman database. Imported the Master.CSV with no errors according to the program, but in the end I get only the pitchers - no other players, and they are all assigned "random" positions. Weird - and apparently broken. Any help here? I saw a few other references to this problem on the board.

2. Where does it store the data files? Is it in the ootp bundle on the Mac? Or buried in Library somewhere?

Guess that's it for now. I'll continue to play with the demo if I can get the import working. I do appreciate the intent to make a Mac version at all though! There aren't any other native choices out there and the career mode looks like fun.

I'm on a last-revision iBook with 512 and it runs acceptable for me. Try killing some widgets and freeing up some ram.

Neither is photoshop. We are getting a first run game at the same time as the PC release. If you are worried about speed-hit up bootcamp and try the PC version.

You could go into the OOTP folder (in your apps folder) and delete it yourself. I've done it with no issues.

Lahman's 5.3 has documented issues. Try the Arod/Garlon DB, it worked flawlessly for me and most others. Or Lahman 5.1 or 5.2.

UserFolder/Applications/OOTP 2006(this isn't the correct name, but its the begining of the correct name)

It is. And the interface, while not all Aqua-ey and tasty, works pretty well once you get used to it. There is a learning curve, sure. Download the game guide, play around a little, and you'll be right in there. And then you can get hooked on FM or EHM too.

Most of the Mac users here are real good about helping out. The forums are a great place to get help and info. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions and I'll try and help the best I can.

Another thing to try-turn off the ticker under the options. I thought I was doing ok, and then I just got annoyed by the ticker and turned it off-wow. This game runs very very well now.
