Ready to throw in the towel--HELP!

Howdy kids,

I'm not usually one to get easily frustrated, but I must admit, with job, kids, etc I just don't have time to learn all I can about the game/demo.

I have downloaded the demo, imported Cubby/Rolen and have started playing as my beloved St Louis Cardinals.

Questions (and if they have been covered before, as I'm sure they probably have, please direct me to link) are many:

I guess I don't get the whole "Universe" aspect of the Sim. I want to control the Cards--both manage and act as the GM. However when I make a trade, the AI immediately readjusts my 40 man roster, calls up players, releases players (ARRGH!), waives players, etc.

I set up myself as the GM (did I fire Bud Selig, was he the original GM?). It says "Act as St Louis" under my name on the main screen. Why? Should it just say "St Louis" ??

I also set myself up to make all roster changes, player moves, etc., in the Manager Section but AI continues to readjust things after I make my changes.

I am in Commissioner Mode if that matters.

Should I adjust anything in the "Other Functions" from League Setup page?

I will readily admit I have not read one bit of the manual, but hell, I'm a guy and we don't need no stinkin manual.

Seriously, I plan on printing both the manual and any mod instructions to take to work and read when I can, but too busy lately. I've always been able to just jump in and figure OOTP baseball games out in the past, so I'm more than a little frustrated right now.

I can tell the potential of this game is amazing and I want to enjoy to the fullest, but my inability to make a roster move without having the AI change things, adjust my 25 man roster, etc., is making me nuts!

Thanks,

GC

It says 'act as' because you're in Commissioner mode.

Sign out as commish and it should say 'St Louis'.

And you did this ^^ by selecting them in the Start Employed/Unemployed option when you named and created your manager? How you "got" the job can have a bearing on what you see, what you are able to do, and how long any of your decisions stick.

OK, to follow through on both suggestions, let's say I disable the Commish mode. Is there any way to change how I "got" the job? I'm not sure I understand.......

I do know if I select the "Game" button and go to "human manager status" it shows Bud Selig as Unemployed. Did I replace him as the manager of the Cards? Therefore, should I have left him?

I went to the Manager Screen and selected "Home Page". I then deselected "Play in Commissioner Mode". It now shows "St Louis" under my GM's name. Let me go see what happens when I attempt to change the roster......

Thanks for the replies.

Well, I'm 0 fer 1. Even with Commish mode turned off, once I signed a couple of free agents, the AI automatically started designating other players for assignment, waiving players, etc. The irrevocable waivers are really annoying as well......

The AI even designated the players I just signed!

This should help...

Click on the Cardinals team page...
Goto "Options & Ballpark" under the "Home" tab...
About halfway down on the left side you will see a checkbox that says "Prevent any AI roster changes"...
Check that box and you should be in complete control of the Cardinals...
You may have to do this with all of the Cardinals affiliates if you want to control the entire franchise...not sure

Herb, you da man. Seems like that might have solved my problem. I wish I could tell you more for sure, but I am unable to continue my season. I'm now having a problem with the demo notification screen constantly popping up on my simworld's August 1, 2006. Here's a link to my latest question:

Demo Notification Screen

Thanks so much for the help.
