just bought 2006

Hi, I just bought 2006 today and quite frankly I dont like it. Compared to 6.5 I find it impossible to navigate around the screens, plus when I imported my league form 6.5 there were some weird players added to my 40 man roster. Does anyone know if there is any way to get ones money back after purchasing this game?

many thanks!

I would give it more time if I were you. Many people didn't really like it at first and then grew to like it. Its a very different game.

If you want to try for a refund, PM Mark Duffy but I think it would be unlikely you would get one, but just my opinion.

You really aren't likely to get a refund for the game. You can't get refunded for open XBOX, playstation, etc games once played unless they are defective. Same thing here. Give 2006 some time and you might find you'll like it. I suggest trying some of the roster sets or quickstarts available here to get familiar with the game: www.ootpmodsquad.com.

Not trying to be mean, but you should have tried out the demo first before purchasing the game.

You could have found out really quickly that you didn't like it especially since navigation seems to bother you.

But, 2006 does have a lot to offer and is very solid. Give it time because you'll get used to the interface (bookmarks help a lot) and you'll find that it does a lot of the things 6.5 does.

I was not happy at first. The UI still bothers me a lot. The depth and challenge are several light years ahead of v6.5

Ootp 2006

Actually, what happend was I downloaded the demo, but was far too busy to play it. When I did try it, the trial period had elapsed so I never really did get the chance to ty it before buying it. Plus, we just had our second baby, so anyone who is or has been a new Father would know that there is little time for playing comuter games!

priorities

It's exactly my new priorities that are going to prevent me from playing OOTP 2006! It was an impulse buy. Live and learn I guess?

Ah, you do not have to give up your OOTP playing time. You just have to be more creative with it.

A big gaming point with OOTP is the flexibility of the different ways that you can play it.

Just this weekend, I played the game a different way and it is fun.

Here is what I did this time around. I created a historical league, using the Lahman database. I set the settings the way I wanted them, Foreign at 1 percent, ratings at 100, modified salaries to 25 percent, set award names, etc. I let all players become FA and set to have a draft.

I picked Detroit as my team and proceeded to have a draft. Since it was 1968, I decided to pick 4 pitchers as my 1st picks. I picked Drysdale, P. Niekro, J. Perry and McNally. Then was able to gobble up Stargell as the offensive star. The rest of the team was not that great, with Kessinger, Price, Mincher, Helms and other types like that.

I drafted the 1st 25 players and then let the computer finish the rest. I have no minor leagues, just the reserve team. I then went through spring training, using the autosimming. I had a couple minor injuries and had tons of crummy offers for my starting pitchers. I made no deals. I made it to opening day and then played 3 or 4 games playing out the game. As expected, I had some great pitching, but was losing some 2-1 type games.

The next day, or later on, I went and did a 'quick sim' for my team on todays date. I did 2 or 3 days, looking at each box score and going in and tweaking lineups, rosters, etc. I also went in and changed some individual settings, like having Garr steal more and Stargell never bunting (he is a 99 at bunting).

I consider this mode to be a 'Ted Turner' mode. I own the team, but I make all the decisions, suggest the lineups, etc. Now, what happens, is the computer will sometimes rest players or change the rotation, based on being tired. It will use the RP a little different than I would, based on the situtation, tired pitchers, etc. This was ok, since the manager is doing the day to day stuff.

The rest of the weekend, I would go in and sim a month at a time. Of course, it was stopping for injuries, trades, etc. I then made it to the playoffs, well, my team didn't, but I ran to the end of the season.

It was a very cool way to play the game. Using some of my utilities, I examined the team and it helped me make some off season decisions.

I was offered Joe Torre, 2nd in the NL in average for McNally. I made that deal. During the off season, I signed Mickey Lolich to replace McNally and also signed 24 game winner Ken Johnson to a very cheap contract. Perry was a 23 game loser for me, but did well from the pen during the last half of the season, so he will be running from the pen.

I had Bill Short as my closer, sharing the job with Billingham. Since Short has such a low END, it worked out well. He has a 1.69 whip and was very effective on a losing team. I picked up Steve Garvey in the ammie draft, hoping that he blossoms this year and I can trade him.

Odd was that I got a #3 draft pick from the Cubs because they signed Vic Davallio that I did not re-sign. Someone else also got my #1 pick because I signed Lolich.

One NOTE: I did have a crash that screwed things up. I had a pitcher injured, when I tried to replace him after the inning, it crashed to the desktop, killing my last several games and even a trade. But this happened early in the season.

I then set the game to save after each game. With a small league like this, I do recommend that you turn this on. It does not take very long to save, so it is worth it. You have to decide if it is worth it or not, depending on how large the league is and how long it takes.
