Need some help making a league site

Ok, I'm a first time poster on these board so bear with me. I'm starting up my own league and it's my first time being a commish. From asking around other commishes, I figured out how to dl a roster set and things of that nature. I've got experience with forums so setting that up was no problem. My only difficult task ahead is making the league site. I got a free host from gigcities, and when i put all the FTP info into my game it said connection found. However, when I tried to upload the reports every file came up as an upload error. After changing some settings, it said the files were actually uploaded but nothing changed on the site. Can someone help? I'm running this on 2006 BTW.

This would require one-on-one extensive help. I might be able to help you if you need it. Hit me up on aim, juicebox3313, but you have a better chance catching me on msn joli334@yahoo.com

Most free sites lack the amount of space to handle an entire OOTP 2006 league as the files are so large. OOTP 6.x would work with less space but you still would be dealing with long upload times when using the in-game ftp.

Hopefully, molarmite can get you pointed in the right direction with your existing site. If you find your webhost doesn't give you the necessary tools and resources, see my sig www.allsimbaseball.com. Get your whole website setup and customized for you and live tutorials to get you jump-started.

PM me if you have any questions.

Make sure that you have an index page. Something called index.html. Most web servers look for this as the entry point of your web page. I believe that OOTP has one named this, so you could in theory just dump the pages and see it but make sure that the index.html is at the root of the page tree.

If you are using some home built page as an entry point, and having a link to the OOTP generated sites, put the OOTP generated sites in their own folder. You don't want the two index.html files to conflict. So make the new folder the "root" of the OOTP generated pages. Most pages look like this:

- index.html
- folder
-- stuff
-- stuff
-folder
--stuff
--stuff
--OOTP FOLDER
-- index.html
-- folder
--- stuff
--- stuff

and so on the list goes.

See if that is maybe your problem. I don't know what experience you have making web pages, but sometimes the simplest things slip through the cracks. I write game software for a living and I make bonehead mistakes all the time

Oh, and yes, what they said was true. The OOTP generated pages just may be too big when added all up for a free hosting site. You might try other alternatives. Like running your own box at home as a web server for example. There is plenty on the internet that will show you how to do that. I hope you have XP Pro or some equivlant in Mac. This way you can get access to your OS's internet information services, or whatever Mac calls it. If you have a Linux machine, you can do it that way too and hook it all up to a router. You will probably need a router anyway since things like dial-up are not good for web hosting, and cable modems (perma-on connections) lease you an IP address that can change at will. If you host your own site, you can set the router's settings to fix all of this.

I can't give you stepps off the top of my head, but I am sure that there is plenty of info if you just google I hope that helps.

Ok. I got my pre-simmed site up. However, after my first sim, when I went to upload my files again, the first 10 or so files will upload, and then rapidly the rest will come up errors. I even created a new FTP account and tried again and the same thing happened, so it must be the game. Anyone know what's up?

I would talk to Fidel about a site. His support is awesome and things are very easy to yourself. The monthy cost is pretty cheap.

We're gonna need for info than that like what kind of errors? When did these happen? How did you upload it? Because you don't need an FTP client to upload reports.

I don't know what kind of error, I just went to upload my reports in the game and at the bottom of the create/upload reports screen where it says files created/files uploaded/upload errors there was about 7500 files created. I began the upload and the first 10 files were uploaded slowly, then the counter started going really fast for upload errors until it finished.

A possible solution - maybe the server isn't allowing you to overwrite files? THe first files could be the new box scores for the simmed games - the rest are already existing files that need to be overwritten.

I thought that too, so I deleted all the old files on the server. Still no dice.

BMull and I discussed his problems via AIM a few days ago. One main issue is the fact that his webhost doesn't provide cPanel, shell access, a file manager and other things that could make life easier for an online league. His webhost appeared to have limits that make using OOTP difficult (but not impossible). Unfortunately, most free hosts(as he mentioned his is) are like this.
