Waiver and DFA Question

How many days do you guys set for waivers and dfa? Our sims are covering 7 days at a time.

My initial idea is:
Waivers - 13 days
DFA - 14 days

The only problem with this is that all waivers would be irrevocable, since a player would clear waivers (and possibly be claimed) before the owning team had a chance to revoke them. However, I think increasing the number of days makes the process last too long.

I'm bumping this question now that more people are playing online and I might get a response.

My current settings are 13 days for Waivers and 21 days for DFA. I'd like to allow waiver wire trading after the deadline but not sure the best way to do this, without extending waiver time too much.

In the league that I help run, we sim 8 days and 7 days alternating. This allows for use of the 15 day DL.

For waivers, we have it set at 16 days, so that after 2 sims, an owner still has a chance to pull someone off waivers if they need to. So far it has worked out good.

DFA is also set at 16. But this is somewhat experimental, because I'm really not sure what number would work. So, I'm interested to see other responses to this.

The problem with having them set the same is that owners need to wait for players to clear waivers before trading them. So if their waivers and DFA both ran out on the same day, they'd have to be released. I think DFA time needs to be 1 sim longer than waivers.

I see your point.
I'm going to bring this up to the other leadership in my league and try to figure this out.

I don't know why, but I'm still struggling with this. We use 7 day sims.

With waivers at 14 days, they'd clear after 2 sims, not giving the waiving team a chance to revoke them.

With waivers at 15 days, teams wouldn't know if they cleared yet because another team could jump in and claim them with the last export before they clear.

The only system I can see working is having waivers set at 15 and manually enforce a rule that says nobody can claim a player with only 1 day left on waivers and that players with 1 day left are eligible to be traded (after the deadline)

Any other suggestions?

I should have mentioned that that is our rule also. Noone can be claimed on the 16th day. And I think it works nicely.
I'm still struggling with the DFA.

I think I'm going to make it 15 for waivers and 21 for DFA.

DFA time just needs to be 1 sim longer, for a couple reasons.

- To give owners time to decide what to do with them (trades) after they clear waivers.

and

- When trying to demote players that are out of options, you can't move them until they clear waivers.

Good idea. I'll probably go with this.
