Transcontinental Baseball Association
The year is 1870. Union Pacific and Central Pacific have just completed the first transcontinental railroad, making travel from east to west fast and reliable for the first time. To promote their new railway, and to draw new residents and businesses to the burgeoning western cities, the two train companies team with local and eastern investors and start the Transcontinental Baseball Association, the first organised, professional baseball league in the country. 18 of the east's largest cities establish clubs and form one league, while eight of the largest cities along the Railroad set up a western league.
Online play does not actually start at this point, however. I will initially be running it as a solo commissioner league. Over the ensuing decades, railroads are increasingly spread throughout the west, opening up the Southwest and Northwest, and the Western League expands accordingly. I will oversee the changing league, trying to follow a realistic historical course, also following changing financial and social dynamics. Since it got the jump on professional baseball and was largely successful from the start, the Major Leagues never came into existence. These alternate events sent our universe onto a tangent, and no historical Major Leaguers ever played professional baseball. We will finally stop simming and open up the league to real owners in 2006, with a deep history of players, records and major events that will give the league a very unique character and hopefully make it more appealing from the start than history-less fictional leagues. There will be a complete Hall of Fame as well as historical articles, a detailed timeline of events and the best part, a complete Catobase from day one thanks to what looks like a very rich in-game history database. We will encourage all owners to help contribute to the enrichment of the league's history by writing historical articles about their team and the league as a whole. The league forum is located here. If you would like to be considered for a team, please sign the waiting list and we'll sort things out once our ownership situation is cleared up. There are currently several openings, and more may open up as some owners who signed up before the game was released may have since decided to drop out.
