ATH Seeks 3 New GMs
Around the Horn Baseball League was established in March of 2003. We started off with the Total Minors roster set (courtesy of GForce) in the 2003 season. We are currently in the offseason of the 2017 season. Still in the early stages of Free Agency and the first round of the draft. We sim 3-times a week (MON-WED-FRI) 7 days each. We currently are using OOTP 6.5a and at this time have no plans for moving to the OOTP 2006 platform.
We're looking for a 4 GMs to take over the Kansas City Royals & Texas Rangers, San Juan Devil Rays, Chicago White Sox franchises. Someone who wants a team and wants to be apart of the league. Your participation can be as little or as much as you'd like it to be and that your schedule will allow. All we ask is that you try to make your into a good team, a competitive team, but most importantly....YOUR team. We try to make the league interactive for the GM's by voting on the all-star starters with the reserves being selected by the current AL and NL league champions. We also vote on who wins the end of season awards: Cy Young, MVP, Rookie of the Year, and GM of the Year. If writing is your thing, you can post your team or league news articles directly to the front page using the simple but handy Coranto utility. Background on the Kansas City Royals As you probably would anticipate, for the most part the Royals have been a lack-luster franchise. They have a record of 1014-1253 and no World Series titles. However the current club have posted 3 straight winning seasons including back-to-back AL Central division champions the past two seasons. They made some noise in the post-season last season knocking off the 107 win Oakland A's in the ALDS. They fell to the eventual ATH champions New York Yankees. Last season they proved their franchise record 101 wins was no fluke when they went 96-66. They're payroll is just at 49.8 mil so there is funds availble to go after free agents should you decided to do so. They currently have the 15th ranked farm system. This has been a team on the rise the past couple seasons. THey first posted a winning record 3 seasons ago, then a division title with a ALDS appearance, and last season with another division title and an ALCS appearance. Can you get them to the next level and win it all? Background on the Texas Rangers. The Rangers have the least amount of success among the four teams. They've posted a record of 1000-1267 so far in the league. They've never made the post-season or finished higher than 3rd in the AL West. In 14 seasons they've posted just one winning record back in 2011 win they won 87 while losing 75. Surprisingly they've only suffered one 100 loss season. To me the Rangers have the brightest future of the three teams open. While they may not have a ton of major league talent on their current roster they have a payroll of just 40.0 mil and have 3 top 20 prospects, all of which I would classify as players ideal to build around, and 2-3 more likely major leaguers in their farm system. If you have the patience to let this team develop and enjoy building a team around a young core group of players, this team is for you. Background Chicago White Sox: Not far behind the Rangers are the White Sox. Overall they have gone 1027-1240. They can boast of 4 2nd place finishes but have yet to qualify for the postseason. They've won as high as 93 games in 2009 but have had just one other season (2010) where they played higher than .500. For as lack-luster as the franchise has been, for the most part it has avoided huge loss season having just 2 100 loss seasons. Last season the White Sox lost 103 games which tied a franchise record. Currently the White Sox have a payroll of 35.5 mil, a fan interest of just 28, and the 13th ranked farm system. The White Sox are just in the early stages of a rebuild and will probably be 2-3 seasons away from being able to make a run. Any GM will need to be patient if they take the White Sox. Background San Juan Devil Rays The Devil Rays moved from Tampa to San Juan after the 2013 season. In their first saeson in San Juan they went a franchise worst 55-107. They have made a steady improvement in years 2 & 3 going 68-94 and 74-88 last season. In their history overall they have gone 1031-1236. They have had a pattern where the team builds up over 3-4 seasons and makes one push into contention. From 2003-10 they had three winning seasons and only lost 90 twice. 2011-present they have lost atleast 90 games each season except for last season in which they lost 88. Currently the Devil Rays are in the middle of a rebuild. They have a very nice amount of young hitting spread out all through their organization from A-ball all the way up to last years AL ROY Cory Stgermain. While the young hitters should provide something to build around, the Devil Rays play in a tough division and really lack any kind of reliable pitching. If you take over San Juan you will have to be able to build up the organizations pitching while also finding a way to compete with the high-powered Yankees. If you are interested in taking on the role of GM any of the above teams or have further questions please contact me at holycow_98@hotmail.com . Hey, I've been the GM of the Giants in this league for just a short while, but here's my perspective.
This is the first online league I've been in and I'm loving it. We've got a nice mix of experienced and new managers, and overall the league's pretty competitive. We're in the off-season so there's still time to mold your team the way you want for the 2017 season. Come join us! |
