A Different Kind of League

Here's an idea that someone mentioned to me and I wanna give it a shot and see what happens....

30 teams real MLB Setup. Using Erich's 06 OD set. But with tweaked modifiers to fix some known issues. As well as an extended draft class as well as some additional FA's

Now for the interesting Part.
I am going to Sim 1 in-game day every RT day.

And Yes I know this is incredibly slow compared to most online leagues. My reasoning is this will give you much more actual hands on GM experience. You will have easy ability to sub for injured players, cold players, whatever the case may be.

And to answer a common question, I don't a website or even a forum Yet. I will get a forum once I have 10 confirmed GMs and a website one I have 20. This is Because I honestly dont know what kind of reaction this idea will get. So I am going to play it safe

I was in a league like this actually a while ago. It was a lot of fun, but there were some really active hardcore owners. If there's a group of active, good GMs that'll stick around long term and not bail it's an excellent idea. I'd definetly be interested.

I've been in one that simmed one game daily as well (AaronSmartBaseball) and it was a great league. It does take a bit to get used to the slow pace, but once you do it's well worth it. Just be forewarned though, you'll likely get a few (if not more) owners that think they will be okay with the snail's pace only to bail early on after they claim they want something faster paced. That's fine unless they've destroyed a team prior to quitting. Because it's a game a day it would take FOREVER for a new GM to turn that around. But again, if done right (with solid GM base) it could/should be rewarding for you.

Oh, and because I bought 2006 and have yet to use it even ONCE, I'd be willing to give it a shot. I'd be interested in the Mets if possible. I see as of now only the Cardinals and Mariners have been requested.

An interesting concept for sure. One question I would have right away is, how much time does the commish have to commit? Will the web site be updated everyday or only every so often?

I will update daily after each Sim is Run. I will ultimately run two leagues, this MLB one and then the one in my Sig as well.

Mets are saved for you....

to answer your question a bit more in depth Bruce, My plan would be to sim each day around 7-7:30 AM central time and then upload the files, thus giving the GMs around 20+ hours to do anything they need to do before the next days Sim

I think this would be a great idea in a smaller league. 30 teams might be too many because you can't count on 30 people to be involved daily.

As D's stated, it has worked in the past in an OOTP league, and quite well.

www.aaronsmart.com is the best league I've ever been in, and we're on our 5th season. We've used only real life players since day 1, including draft lists.

With that said, I'd like to take a stab at the Twins.

Thanks - I'm looking forward to it.

This is an interesting concept. Let me say that I have never been involved in a league like this, but I will try my hardest to stay involved and not ruin it for the other owners.

My problem with other leagues is that sometimes they move too fast for me (as hard as it is to believe that). I think the slower pace will allow me to stay involved and on busy days I won't have to worry about getting in rosters or anything because I could just leave it the same if I wanted.

One question though, not looking at this as a good or bad thing, but won't the activity (trade wise) be really high because of the slow pace? I don't know. Just curious.

I'm interested in taking the Brewers.

EDIT: It should be noted that I DON'T have OOTP2006. If that is a requirement then I won't be able to be in the league.

Not necessarily. That wasn't the case when I was in my previous 1-day per sim. It's not like because there isn't a 5, 10, or 15 day sim per period that teams felt compelled to deal more often. Because things are slower paced I think you're even more likely to be cautious when dealing, not the other way around. But that's just my opinion after having been in a variety of types of leagues in the past ....

If the Mets are taken, how about either the Red Sox, or the Anaheim Angels???
