I'll take real players, particularly oldtimers. My imagination just can't come close to matching the 'character' of the real oldtimers. Fictional players just seem 'hollow' in comparison.

Fictional is also the way to go for me. I feel you're able to create histories for players much more easily when you don't have pre-conceived notions about guys like Mel Ott, Ty Cobb, etc.
Part of running a fictional league is giving your players an added dimension, something I've tried to do with the ABL. When I start doing the history writings (old-time recaps, player histories, etc), I'll be able to give certain players strong personalities. I think OOTP helps with that with the leadership ratings and stuff like that. Anyway, fictional is the way to go. Peace John -ABL: http://www.thepostgamereport.net |

Thank you. Whenever I get a free moment, I'll be back and writing. Life has been very busy lately. I have to use my Media Law class time to surf the message boards! ; )

John's league is very in-depth and terrific for baseball nuts that want to immerse themselves in a fictional baseball world.
I always prefer fictional. I am in one real player league but it's got the Maelstrom Legends twist going for it. I couldn't pass up a chance to have Sandy Koufax on my team! As John alluded to, I have always liked giving my fictional players some personality and background. It makes it more fun to write team reports and news stories. Plus, I don’t have to deal with the preconceived notions about real players.

I'm in both historical and fictional leagues and fictionals are, by far, MUCH better.
You can create your own personalities in a fictional league. If you've never tried a fictional, you don't know what you're missing! |

I prefer fictional. It's more fun for me to make up my own humans. It's also easier to write about them.
Historical leagues are great nostalgia, though. What gives me a twinge is having a real-life league that, as it moves into the future, has to incorporate fictional players and become a hybrid league. I don't know why, but putting fictional and real players together makes me a little queasy. That having been said, I'm in one of each kind of league, and I enjoy them all. -- Louie

Actually would have been nice to have a 3rd choice on this poll. I like both equally. Fiction is fun as you won't have and preconcieved notions of what a player should do. Real is also fun as you can try different trades, drafts, etc to see what a certain team might do with a specific bunch of players. Historical is also great as you get to relive any era of this great game.

Hmmm, when I voted for 'real' I was voting for historical/old timers. I thought they were real... You mean Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb etc weren't real???
