ABL Headline News: Josh Post Wins 400th Game!
The most exclusive club in the American Baseball League had admitted one more member.
Philadelphia Quakers' ace Josh Post won his 400th game on Sunday, going eight innings of two-hit ball in a 6-5 victory over the Cleveland Spiders. Post, 400-101 over his 17-year career, joins six others in the 400-win club. "This is truly remarkable," Post said after the game. "To be honest, this whole media circus stuff was beginning to get to me. I'm glad to finally put this behind me. Now we can focus as a team on winning the AL pennant." If someone had told Post that he would become one of the most dominating pitchers in history the day he was drafted, as the final pick in the 1986 preseason draft, he would have looked at you funny. "I was just looking at making the team," he said. Post was part of a ten-man group that came from Beaverton High School in Beaverton, Oregon. The owner of the Quakers, Kevin Bensel, was drafted in 1985. He finished his career with a 217-53 mark, and the Quakers have become the most dominate dynasty in the ABL's 101 years of play as a result of that group. However, today was Post's day, all to his own. Following the game, the Quakers held a ceremony in Post's honor, much to the delight of the sell-out crowd. "It's such a huge feat, it needs to be celebrated correctly," said Bensel, who has been engaged in a not-so-secret feud with his star pitcher for years. "Today is a great day for Josh, for the Quakers, and for the American Baseball League. It shows that anything can happen to anybody." The other members of the 400-win club are Dizzy O'Brien (483-280), Mike Bordi (459-126), Paul Beck (456-333), Johnny Kraly (431-175), Jacob McLaughlin (429-232), and Jocko Benton (415-333).
