Beat Writers For Online Leagues?
I'm wondering, does anyone do beat writing or have beat writers for their leagues? I'm interested in doing this for a league, and would like to know what it entails. Personally, I think a lot of contact with the owners is the top priority, and creative flexibility would be second...
Funny, but I'm more interested in watching a season than playing one... I recently gave up ownership of my team in my own single-player fictional league, and have been simming week by week just to see how players are doing. :P That kind of tipped me off as to what my ideal role in an online league would be, yeah? Anyway, if there are any leagues interested (willing to take a chance on a green writer), let me know. I want to give this a shot. And any current beat writer (are there any who aren't also team owners?) willing to share a couple of tips, I'd be very appreciative, as well.

Sinclair: We have several owners in the USBA that contribute articles on a regular basis for their own team as well as a couple beat writers who contribute under the names of Peter Gammons a Rick Reilly. We'd love to add another beat writer in this very engaging fictional league set in the mid 1980's. Give us a look!

The NGBL recently posted a thread looking for a beat writer. We are an up and coming league with a great website and dedicated owners and staff. It is a league based on current rosters and then simmed 10 years into the future. Current Top Prospects and young stars are now veterans or in their prime. It would create a unique challenge for a beat writer in my opinion. I will supply you with whatever you need to succeed.
You can contact me one of the following ways: AIM: kckyote Email: NGBL@nexgenbaseball.com Alt Email: aubert@comcast.net Reply to this thread. Check us out... NexGen Baseball League

The USBL can use a beat writer... much. If you can, e-mail me a sample of yours, and I will look at it, and I will get abck to you as soon as i'm done looking at it. Thanks for your interest!

I could be looking for a writer to help me out in the ABL. It's not a priority, but if you want to hone your skills, the ABL would be a good place to do it. I really enjoy writing, and wrote 150 pages worth of news in the first season of my first online league. But, running a league is more time consuming, and it's difficult to get things out sometimes.
We have a 100+ year history that you can play with (I can provide any materials you want), and a small, 16-team league. 30 teams is too much to cover, in my view. If you're interested, look me up on AIM at UCONNROX11, or email me at ABLCommish@aol.com www.thepostgamereport.net is the home of the ABL, just so I don't forget. ; ) Peace John |

Oh, and if you look at the almanac, you will notice that the player pages are down. I've had some major problems with the FTP on that site lately. I took the whole thing down to throw up an updated one (with postseason stats), and I just haven't been able to get them all up yet. So, that's why they're not up.
Peace John |

Whoa. Lots of offers... I'll check out all of these leagues (and any others who are interested) and get some writing samples up before anyone commits to anything.
![]() I wonder if more people would be interested in doing this kind of stuff. The "Talk Baseball" forum is usually pretty busy with people spouting off flavorful opinions. Think some of them would be interested in getting in on this kind of gig? Anyway, some notes: I'll probably pick one of the fictional leagues, as I'm afraid I read too much about Kentsey-Bondsey / SorianoGiambi / Schilling-Johnson / HudsonZitoMulderLidle to do any writing about them within the context of a simmed league and without the influence of their real life performance somehow finding a backdoor into my psyche. :P More news, and keep brining more leagues to my attention. I like checkin' 'em out.

However, the ABA already has several "vultures" who contribute (or at least should be contributing in order to improve their standing with the league). Either league would be a great one to write for! |
