relocation and history
In an online league what is the best way to handle teams relocating with new owners?
I see that I can easily change the city and name of the team, but should I leave the abbreviation the same even though the teams changes to keep the same references for historical purposes? If I change the abbreviation, how will some of the addon utilities react? Wallman's, Cato's, Iatricsb's ? Thanks in advance for your help.

Personally, my thought is this on relocation.
No. Well, now that you have that, I'm sure it doesn't matter WHAT I think. However, here's a suggestion on how to limit it somewhat. (Since I don't know if you have limitations built in, I'm going to assume you don't) New owners need to prove themselves before they have rights to do what they want with a franchise in YOUR league. So, have them participate for two full seasons before they can relocate. If you have an owner that relocates and leaves shortly thereafter, and a new owner comes in and wants to move, what kind of team history is that? The addon utilities should have no problem. It's only if you contract teams (and Cato's handles that, Wallman's doesn't yet, and I'm not sure about latric's). As far as the abbreviation is concerned, I'd change it. You move a team to New Orleans from Montreal, it wouldn't make sense to have their abbreviation as MTL. Hopefully I helped somewhat. Peace John |
