Advice for new league

I'm considering starting a new league but I want to make sure I'd have enough owners before I go out getting a web site and such.
Basically, my idea is to start a league using the greatest players of all time from the team they started with. In other words, the Red Sox would have Williams, Ruth, Clemens, etc. The Yankees would have Mantle, Dimaggio, Whitey Ford. It might be too difficult to come up with the rosters, but that's why I'm posting here before trying to start the league.
How many of you would be interested in joining such a league? I'd probably let owners choose their own players to easy the burden on me, but I could do it myself if those involved thought it best. I'd imagine there would be the following teams:

Athletics
Mets
Yankees
Red Sox
Orioles
Cardinals
Royals
Tigers
Twins
Rangers
Angels
Dodgers
Phillies
Cubs
Pirates
Astros
Brewers
Indians
White Sox
Giants
Reds
Braves

I might consider the Blue Jays, Padres, Mariners and Expos too, unless fellow owners think it would be unfair because they don't have the history and talent pool to draw from.
I've been involved in leagues of one form or another since 1998 and would love to start one of my own. What do you all think of this idea. I'm up for hearing all suggestions about teams, rules, etc. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

QuicK Question: How would you handle ages and aging and new players?

I'm not sure what to do about ages and new players. I figured I'd import players into the game from their rookie year and then adjust the DOB so they're the proper age. For new players, I'd say either a normal ammy draft or allow teams to choose a small, set number of players from their team who weren't on the starting roster. Any other ideas?

Giving it more thought, I think the best course of action would be to let each owner choose his 25-man roster and then fill the minors with ficitional players. The major league players could either be imported as rookies, or a combination of rookies, players in their primes and those in the twilight of their careers. Players would be randomly chosen for those three categories (9 rookies, 8 primes, 8 twilights per team)
Each year (including the first) owners could choose 1 pitcher and 1 hitter from their team to put in the minors. These two players would be imported as rookies and then have their age cut back another two or three years in order to give them time to develop.
I'd probably suggest bringing in a handful of historical players each year from the teams that aren't chosen. These players would be put in the amateur draft.
What does everyone think of these ideas?

Not sure if you were paying attention, you San Diego Apologist!
The teams will be made up of greats from that franchise. Most of the few great players that the Padres had are more often associated with other teams (Alomar, Ozzie, Garvey, Nettles, Goose...).
I don't think your team of Dave Winfield, Tony Gwynn, Gaylord Perry, Eric Show, Bip Roberts, Tim Flannery and Kurt Bevaqua won't exactly instill fear in your opponents!

I think what he was saying that he was only picking guys that were drafted or started out with that team. In that case, Alomar and Ozzie would be on the Padres.

The Jays wouldn't be worth much. If you do choose to use them though, remember that Kent and Karsay were ours.

Ahhh yes. Hard to imagine Ozzie as anything but a Cardinal but if the league used the team the player truly started out with, that would make sense. Still hard to make a case for the Padres

i just made the case. and yes it was hard but i think i got a pretty good team. by no means neccesary would it match the yankee$ or bo$ton but thats what you get for being a small market team.

all we need is a LF, some more pitching and we are destined[for last place]

By the way,if you do this league, i would love to have the Padres. If i got some help...

Actually, for once small market has little to do with it. It's the history of Boston/NY that'll kill ya. If players were all just thrown into free agency in a league, and someone said "start bidding!" then you could bitch about small markets successfully, despite Yankee fans claiming their free spending isn't an advantage.

in Left Field, maybe Derek Bell (had a great time in San Diego before being traded to Houston for Steve Finley and Cammi (Mr "I took steriods in 1996") edit: he was sent from Toronto to San Diego in the Carter/McGriff deal, or as pitcher, Matt Clement (top 5 among Ks in 2002)

I wasn't trying to say that the Padres don't have talent, just that they don't have the decades of history that some other teams do. I'm not even sure I'd include the Royals or Brewers because of a similar worry (or maybe even the Rangers or Astros)
