Now forming, a new league featuring all-time all-stars based on state of birth. The league will be a one-season tournament to determine which state has the best baseball pedigree in the Union.

The league site is up. This league structure lends itself to a nice mix of legendary stars and forgotten bit-players across all eras. It also allows managers to choose their own challenge. Can you lead New Hampshire to .500? Can you make the right player selections to lead a big state to expected glory? Come have a look. If you are interested, you can claim your state here or email me at Statesleague@aol.com.

Cool South Dakota has 32 players. More than North Dakota. Led by Sparky Anderson, Kerry Lightenberg, Keith Foulke.

That's correct, no trading. It's just like the Olympics or World Cup soccer, you play for your country/state. So rather than drafting or trading players, owners try to pick the best team from the pool of eligible players. Kinda like picking your state's "Dream Team" (or "Nightmare Team" depending on the state!).

Alabama, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Hampshire are gone. Plenty of good states to choose from!

Thanks in advance to Ankit Desai. I'm using his "normalized" database and after importing just 80-odd players, the normalized ratings look great. It is amazing how normalizing cuts players like Christy Mathewson and Chuck Klein down to size, and Koufax and Schmidt look phenomenal.

And though Finances are off, it will be interesting to see who the top 25 salaried players are and which state has the highest payroll.

Stay tuned!

There are 27 states available, including a couple biggies (Ohio, Texas), as well as Ty Cobb and Jackie Robinson's Georgia, Babe Ruth and Lefty Grove's Maryland, and Dizzy Dean and Brooks Robinson's Arkansas.

Site has been updated, including current vacancies and rules.

Now here's a commish who's not afraid to flaunt his rules violations:

Owners Page

Alabama - Tim Smith*
Colorado - Tim Smith*

Florida - Pete Grassi
Pennyslvania - Pete Grassi

New York - Lance Mueller
North Carolina - Lance Mueller

*Commissioner

Just kidding, I'm sure the owners page is still under construction; this just appeared humorous to me.

What rule are you referring to? Because teams are based on birthplace, and there are no trades, there is no risk of collusion. The challenge of this tournament is to see what you can do with your state's player pool. With no trades and free agents, and a single-season tournament, there is a minimal time commitment, so interested owners are welcome to select multiple state all-star teams.

Sorry, no Vermont. There were several states which lacked a critical mass to field a team, and Vermont happened to be one of them.
