Idea, in progress, for an OOTP RPG league. (similar to goallinebitz)
Not sure if anyone has tried this or not, but I am going to attempt a RPG ootp league. This will be different than your standard league, in that, each person will create a player. There will be no owners or GM's (although, this could be worked in in the future, ala GLB, but this would probably take more resources than I can spare).
Here is the gist of the idea so far. Please, feel free to post any other ideas or thoughts on this kind of league. Basically, each person will be able to create one player. Each player will start off with a set number of points (yet to be determined). These will be different depending on postion (pitcher, OF, IF, or catcher) Points can either go towards your players potential attribute or his rating attribute. Whats the difference? Potential is just that, potential. While it might not have a direct effect on your players abilities, the higher the potential rating, the greater his abilities could increase in the future. All potential attributes have a "cap", or limit, of 100. Ratings, on the other hand, directly effect your players performance, but will not have any effect on potential. Your rating attribute is "capped" by the potential rating. So, for example, if your players power potential is at 60, his rating can not be above that number. Minors vs. Majors. Most, if not all, players will begin their careers in the minor leagues. There will be four tiers of minors, AAA, AA, A, and Rookie ball. While your player is in the minors leagues, his development ability (the frequency at which you can accumulate points) is higher than when he reaches the Major League level. So developing your player carefully is important in this league. So, while spending all your time developing his batting average rating might speed his call up to the majors, but once he reaches the majors, the ability to develop (receive addition points) decreases. So you are actually able to create a better 'all around' player while in the minors. This is also the case with ratings vs. potential. In other words, it will take longer to reach the big leagues (in general) the more you work on potential, but he will have a higher ceiling down the road. The team you are on also plays a part in how long you stay in the minors. Weaker teams may bring a player up faster, while a stronger team (especially at the same position as your player) may take longer. As I said though, this could be a good thing for your player. All transactions, roster decisions, and trades, will be made by the AI. One other thing. A agent (the person who created the player) can only have one player at a time, for now. The agent may create another player 'if' their initial player retires or suffers a career ending injury. Players that suffer serious injury, say 12 plus months, may be retired by the agent so they may create a new player. That will be the agents call, however. That is basically it. The biggest hurdle I see is the current way OOTP handles development. So I will need to keep a close log on each players ratings and fix what ever changes the AI makes along the way. I "requested" a feature to have the ability to turn off development to individual players (oppsed to league wide) via the players editor page (using a check box) but I'm not sure if Markus will consider doing that, or not. Again, feel free to post any comments, ideas or thoughts about the idea. Last edited by edm; 07-08-2008 at 01:52 PM. |

With the popularity of GLB and CR,I think there is a calling for a Baseball RPG,something maybe OOTPD should look into.

Isn't this kinda what Inside the Park Baseball is? I only ever messed around with it a little bit, so I'm not sure.
