Finally, an OOTP pay league!

The Money Ball Syndicate is ready to accept applications!

The Syndicate is an OOTP pay league featuring 24 major league clubs divided into 2 leagues. Each league features 3 divisions of 4 teams each. Each of the 24 MLB teams have all three of their 'real life' minor league clubs from A through AAA ball. The league starts with a serpentine inaugural draft using a random draft order. OOTP11 and a valid isp email address are required. See the rules for a complete run down.

What makes the Syndicate different? You can make money for Syndicate success with a low buy in!

For our first season, each club costs 13.94 (the equivalent of an 82 win team). That gives us 334.56 to pay out to the league in season 1! To see the payout categories, please see our Rules section.

Each season after our first costs the owner .17 for each win his club posted the previous season. That gives us 320.96 to pay out each season after our first. We will sim twice weekly (most likely), so a season will take us between 2-3 months.

Those behind the Syndicate all have many years of OOTP experience. No funny stuff here. The commish(es) will not own clubs. Our league money will be kept in a separate Paypal account (totals available to owners at any time). At the end of each postseason, we will pay out our account down to zero as per our rules and then ask for each owner to purchase their club for the next season (@ .17/win). Statslab is up and will be used in the league, so talent levels are easily tracked. Again, no funny stuff. Just fun baseball with some cash on the line.

Please check out the rules for an indepth look at what the Syndicate will offer its owners. Our website is being developed and will be finalized by the end of the inaugural draft.

We are excited to get the Syndicate underway and look forward to your application! Questions? Please ask!

Troy's a solid guy who is commish of a couple leagues. I'll be aiding Troy in the administration aspect of the league when needed.

Work has been ongoing for this for several weeks now between Troy, myself, and Jerry (Yanks owner), so its well thought out and executed. Rules page includes all the details not in this thread.

If you've ever wanted to play OOTP with a small amount of money on the line (I think WS champs will get around 100 bucks), this is the league for you. Full payout schedule located in the rules.

Fill out the app linked in the post or on the website to get in on the ground floor and draft your original team.

Very interested if it draws enough people I am definitely willing to purchase a team.

Email - therealtomjones@gmail.com

I suppose this is kind of a holding pattern until the league has people signing up.

Keep me in the loop, thanks!

very ambitious...

#1 does the expansion license fee go into the league pool?

#2 what will the policy be for teams left in financial ruin by GMs.... when it is simply not possible to find an owner for that team in that condition?
Does the commissioner own the team and pay?
Does the AI control it?
Does the league go into a holding pattern until a suitable owner who is willing to take the team is found?

1. Any expansion (if it occurs) would go into the pool and be paid out.

2. I believe the rules have this covered to keep this from happening. The hard cap is covered in the rules and can't be circumvented. I'm pretty sure an oversight committee could be in place to oversee any finances that look as if they might be going south.

Hope this helps. Troy/Jerry might offer more insight.

thanks very much...

I've been trying to develop something similar but just can't wrap my head around the aspect of GMs leaving and what happens with the franchise.
For instance, if multi-year contracts are allowed then a team could have four or five guys locked up in 5-year deals that seemed reasonable at the time but talent hits have turned the franchise into disarray.
But I suppose the low stakes will allow for that scenario to simply be a fixer-upper for somebody that likes a challenge.

Plus, the aspect of paying for wins instead of players certainly helps in that regard.
Best of luck.

Email sent, glad to see someone was listening to the financial discussion we had in the other thread, the dollar amounts are just right, enough to make sure people pay attention and not so much that cheating will become a factor.

do the players in the draft have their real life salaries attached to them?

Also are there rules in place for voting for your own players?

These two issues would be decided once the pool of owners was in place I believe.

I am not trying to start anything, but does this not violate the terms of the license agreement?

I would assume you mean the 'Commercial Use' clause...................specifically the reason those running the league are not getting money for it. Use is still purely 'recreational', which is allowed under the License Agreement.

The way I understand it is that every owner must simply own a licensed copy of the game....if that's the case then you are free to do what you like.

side note:
I believe I've read all the rules, but maybe I missed it.
The way it reads is that all money put into the league goes back to all owners. The commissioner(s) do not keep any money nor do they profit?
Not even for hosting?

Sometimes I come across bluntly, not attempting to start anything and I'm saying this with a smile on my face...
But I have to ask, why are you guys doing it?
Traffic? Placing ads on forums? There has to be another reason outside of 'fun' when you are all already running multiple leagues.

Honestly, I wouldn't be comfortable without the commissioner getting paid for his services. I feel like a response would come back one day with regards to some question... "well, it's not like we are getting paid...just have some patience."
And with money on the line I'd have to say I'd expect everything on time with timely responses. But without the commissioner paid, I could not have that expectation.

From my perspective, all money does go back to the owners. I can't really answer your questions as to why to satisfy you, I guess.

I think those working on this would just like to see it happen.

We have a couple of things in place to help prevent an owner from intentionally destroying a team by signing poor over priced long term contracts I believe was the example.
We do have a couple of rules that are designed to help preserve franchises however if someone is hell-bent on destroying his/her team and in doing so hurting every team in the league there is little we can do as we want the team owners in MoneyBall to have as much freedom in running their franchises as owners do in real life. We felt during the development of the league that the type of owner we would be attracting to join would be a more seasoned OOTP veteran and be at the least very well known in the OOTP community and in having that type of owner fill the MoneyBall roster it would go a long way to preventing a lot of the owner issues that other leagues have from time to time. We have to have a little trust in our fellow man here.

I’m 99% sure that there is a rule in place that prevents owners from voting for their own players. I’ll have to go over them again.

The commissioner will not own a team

This is a league that has Mark Cooley in the front office. That right there should be more than enough for even the most skeptical of owners of the league’s validity. 99% of the OOTP community knows Cooley and knows he is on the up and up and would not put his reputation on the line to rip you off of $14. It is just not going to happen.

For a cost of only $13.94 you can be a charter member in the only league where you will have a little at stake and the potential to earn a few bucks.

With our unique “pay per win system” if your team goes south and you want to do a full blown tear down and rebuild you are only going to be paying for your victories during the re-build years. Therefore if you have 4 or 5 lean years winning just 60 games per season the cost to you will be just $10.20 (.17¢ per victory) per season. However that does not mean that you won’t or can’t earn money in those seasons, you can!

I'll be assisting Troy in the 'front office'. That should be noted.

so how many people are involved in creating this league? and are they in the league, I think that will also help, anyone who has an interest in this type of league should be allowed to play, making the setup as legit and competitive as possible
