Commishes... what would you do?

What would you do if an owner constantly harrasses you whenever a player of his gets injured or has a talent drop, and implies you're cheating not only to you, but on your league message board... Frankly, it pisses me off immensely. On one hand, he's a good owner, and active. On the other, activity isn't all that helpful if he bothers me so much that it takes a lot of fun out of running the league for me.

Any opinions?

Edit: Oh ya, I've talked to him about this before, so just "warning him" doesn't seem like a valid option.

I would (and have with other owners) tell him that you are running this league for fun, and frankly he's not making it fun. Tell him that you do the best you can to run it fairly, and if he thinks otherwise that he is welcome to join one of the other dozens (hundreds?) of leagues out there.

Leave it up to him. Tell him he's a good owner, but if he can't stop challenging your authority and/or integrity, he will have to find one of those other leagues.

This fellow could be a great asset to the league if you make it clear this kind of behavior will not be tolerated anymore. He's probably really passionate about his team but allows his emotions get the better of him. I'd also bet that he is new to OOTP and doesn't understand how the game works.

Anyway, if he believes you are a cheater, he should definitely quit and find another league. If not, he should shut his mouth and act like a man when the baseball gods are cruel. Good luck!

crying over an injury is really, well, girlish, lol. Sad thing is, I have more balls than this guy, and I don't have balls!

There are enough commish's out there that do cheat that it is really sad when one that doesn't gets accused of it.

I'd probably go on a long rant including various insults and mockery's of his behavior. Possibly even suggest he has alot of balls to say something like that, since Im a cheater and love to downgrade owner's players that piss me off. Then during the next sim, due to some poetic justice his top player would downgrade, inciting a huge drama, riot, and any desire I had to continue running a league quickly vanishing.

Boot him, now. I don't mind owners criticising me whether in public or private because I think owners should have as much input as possible in running a league. However, the most important asset a commish has is his integrity. If that is being undermined, either by the actions of the commish or simply by a perception problem, there is no way the commish can lead the league with proper authority or enthusiasm if this is not present or even questioned. Right now, this owner is underming your integrity by questioning it which creates a perception problem. Knowing you through this board, IM, and my first hand observations of you as an owner in the FBBL leads me to believe that you would not even consider cheating, let alone do it repeatedly as this owner alleges. The fact that all he has to offer as evidence is your success as a GM and his bad luck makes this an open and shut case. No matter how active he is, he is poison and can do nothing but drag the league down. Kick him out.

Yeah I'd have to agree with holyroller, cuz then even when he gets player developments he'll think stupid stuff like you gave them to him just to shut him up... if these guys have no faith in you as a commish now, it won't remain later.. best to have people who are trustworthy from the start

I took a look at your message board to see the situation. Basically, I would ask if he thought I was cheating to him in private, point blank. If he says yes, ask why he hasn't quit the league? If he says no, ask why he keeps insinuating that you cheat on the message board. Most likely, he will quit either way after such a tactic and you save face for yourself and the league.

Crackpott has had this problem for awhile, he has been most patient, and he really has a dilemma on his hands. The owner does care about the league, but he can't let things go.

'Pott knows how I feel about it. He should decide if the hassle of the one owner outweighs the others, then do accordingly.

Hang in there man. I support you 125%

I've had these situations many times before and it's a shame that a potentially great owner has to go down this path. What I've done is a put up or shut up post on our board. When someone insinuates it, give them 24 hours to post conclusive proof of their allegations or you will happily accept their resignation. Usually a deep apology will follow at which point you give them one last chance. He does it again, it's bye-bye time.

I think the one thing you don't want to do is to Just kick him out without bringing his disruptivness to light for everyone to see. Because if you just kick him out for saying you are cheating, there might be a rumor that "where there's smoke, there's fire". One thing that has to be remembered is that You maybe commisoner, but the League is not yours. The owners that are in the league with you, own it too. If they were not in the league you would not be the commisioner of one. So you should get all the owners together and discuss what you are feeling and how the guy is making the league not fun for you. I gurantee that if you bring light to the guy in a public area, he will either quit or cease the behavior.

I would point out that the PWBL Cubs invariably lead the league in plus margin over expected wins.

Sounds like he is intellectually committed to the league, but his emotions get out of control. I’d try to guide him into a pattern of keeping better control of his emotions. Or publically inform everyone else in the league that this fellow has these outbursts, and to please ignore him at these times because he has temporary lapses of reason.

Crackpott did win the 1973 world series, which is a sign of a cheating commissioner...

Actually it's not cheating if you only have to sim it 5 times or less to win. Anything more than 5 though, now that's cheating.

On a serious note. I've always wondered if there was an easy way to video conferance the games being played on your cpu to a feed that all the owners could tap into. Besides the peace of mind it would give owners to watch the simulations themselves as they happen, it would make for awesome live simming during the playoffs. Is something like this feasable to setup or too consuming to be worth it, or even possible at all?

It's perfectly feasible, but might take some expensive software to broadcast live from your computer at any reasonable fps rate.
