I concure with the nomination of SO49 - Nate runs a solid a well ran league.
I also nominate the TSTBL and PWBL....The TSTBL was the first OOTP league I joined, and I am still with it over 1 1/2 later - so that tells me that Brent Kick puts in the time to make this a solid league, and the PWBL is historical baseball, and has been another solid addition to my OOTP addiction!

I don't think you can or should quantify and/or rank the best ootp leagues out there. There are a great number of leagues that do what they do as well as it can be done, so well that all of the members love the league to death.
Just to give you a concrete example of the problems you can come across when trying to rank leagues in this manner, consider the PWBL and So49. The PWBL is a historical league which began in 1946 and uses historical players but which emphasises modern realism over historical reality and what-if scenarios. I am commish of the PWBL and, along with the other 15 owners, love the league and enjoy every minute of it. I am also a recent addition to So49 and joined the league only because it offered a different vantage point to the same historical epoch. I think Rob (aka bigsmooth) can agree with me that the two leagues are both very enjoyable and well worth the time and effort, but very different despite the similiarity in time frame. I guess my point would be that there are many approaches to ootp leagues and not only is that okay, it is good and completely healthy. I realize that it was not the intent of this poll to minimize or dismiss that, but I think it is important to keep in mind, regardless of the results.

I like to think that Baseball Maelstrom is one of the better modern-day leagues out there. I have to agree with HR though. There are a lot of good leagues out there. Each one may do things a little differently, but for the owners in them, they can't be beat.

Someone mentioned Boys of Summer, link is in my signature. Also, NBSL (in my sig) is starting 12th season and has a solid reputation with minimal advertising.

I'd have to nominate these 3 leagues in that order.
http://o5b.ootp-leagues.com/ http://www.fhockey.com/WBL/ http://wbl.ootp-leagues.com/ Im in a few leagues that are run horribly. The iMLB use to be a great one. He was having personal problems and told the league he was shutting down for a month and that was 2.5 months ago. |

Hey guys.
I'm not necessarily looking for hype, because in my opinion a league is only as good as the people committed to it...from the creator to the staff they put together to the people they bring aboard. I'm proud of the 29 other guys I work with in my league, almost 2/3rd of them being original members since July of 2000. Keeping in mind we may be the only league that ever converted their entire history and database from High Heat to OOTP, I hope you'll understand why I'm such a fan of the people who are part of eMLB. I welcome anyone to visit our website and take a peek on what they think. It's at www.emlb-baseball.com Hope you enjoy our little slice of baseball heaven. Thanks, LB PS- For those who always question the commitment of the people running a league, I hope this link is a sign of dedication below! http://www.emlb-baseball.com/maxima.jpg |

I have to agree with everyone that no one league will ever be the best. BTW one thing I like after checking out some leagues I did know exist was the originality of their websites. I really hate the instant phpnuke site, post your own news plain sites, not a put down just my opinion.

Neither is my league, but I can certainly vouch for the quality of the MBBA and the FIBB. I'm sure any owner in either of them will agree they're great leagues run by dedicated commisioners and full of fun, smart owners.
But then, I'm not sure a poll to find the 'best' OOTP league by picking the first twenty leagues to be pimped on the board is going to determine much of anything. |

I'd like to second (or third, or fourth) the praise for Glory Days. I ran the Cubs for about a year (about 1924-1933 in league time) in the GDBA. It was originally run by Mark Cooley, then Iatric took it over and has done a great job with it. Martin King's ACL appears to be well run and doesn't take itself too seriously...check it out. |
