Increasing League Activity

The S3BL is finishing up their second season. We have our core of great & active general managers. But, there are always a few teams who seem to be into the league for a bit, and then slowly dwindle out.

I was curious to see what other leagues to in order to keep league activity up. I considered awarding teams for doing league activities such as writing a league article, conducting an interview, writing a team press release, and so on.

What other ways do leagues get managers to become more active?

Stop having players win the rookie of the year award twice in the same year.

One way might be to have mfitterer1 post on your forum, seems to do the trick here.

The league commissioner must set the example. The more he puts into the league, the more the owners will.

Yes I think that bringing in the Mfitterer is a good way to fire things up!

Of course it could explode in your face but sometimes you gotta live on the edge!

I think you have to realize that there are going to be people in every league who just do not have any interest in doing the things you are asking for ("writing articles", "Conducting an interview"). If half the people in your league do these things, consider yourself lucky. Many OOTP players just enjoy tinkering with lineups, working out trades, and fielding the best team they can without getting into making up fake stories about fake baseball events regarding fake players. If you try and force them, they'll resent you. If you set up some sort of reward system, you may alienate them.

As Satchel alluded to, the Commissioner can set the tone. If he does not put forth the effort, most league members won't either. But even if the Commish is a writin' fool, it does not mean the league members will all join in. In the USBA I have original owners that have never written a press release but remain active, solid players who don't miss deadlines. Probably more than half the league contributes to extracurricular activities in various ways, which I am fine with. 100% might be overkill anyway and result in too much to read or keep up with.

Yeah, I'm one of the type of people he was talking about as far as just wanting to submit lineups and work out trades and just that type of thing. I don't want to spend a bunch of time writing league articles or press releases. That's not why I'm in sim leagues and it's not what I'm interested in. I'm interested in competing against teams to win the championship and building up my team. So that's what I try to do.

Re: Increasing League Activity

I am only in two leagues, so I am not that qualified to comment. However, that has not stopped me before. I don't understand why anyone would want to bribe people to participate. I am extremely active in both my leagues. I imagine if you start down the path of bribery it will lead you to a place where the only people who participate are the ones you pay off. What is next? Come join our league we pay $50 bucks for setting your line up.

i think a league is only as active as the commissioner who runs it.......providing people with something to do is what keeps them interested, just simming and posting a page isn't enough.
