Fictional World Online League
Other than the LBA, are there any fictional world online leagues? By that I mean a league that is completely fictional, including fictional city names. Would there be interest in one?
I was thinking the world would be just advanced enough to allow travel via railway between the cities on the continent (think early 1800s). For centuries many of the countries had been at war but because many of the different nationials were getting their first real chance at travelling to other parts of the continent, war has been put on the backburner for the moment in favour of the investigation other lands and cultures. Someone on their travels, perhaps by accident, introduces his native game of "batball" to some of the locals. They instantly fall in love with the game and soon start their own local league. After a few years the two countries' leagues unite and soon thereafter other countries are wanting to join the league. Sound interesting?

The IBL was a really good league run under that premise until the commish dissapeared one day.
The GMC (see sig) is a part fictional/ mostly real player league with cities from all over the world. If you start up another, I'll be in line for a team. ![]() EDIT: Just reread your post. Neither of those leagues is THAT fictional. Still a very good idea though. Last edited by jjd; 10-31-2003 at 09:58 AM. |

I have an idea also: make the league be in two seperate countries at war. Two leagues, only meeting in the championship series, no interleage. The war stops when the series starts. Thats an idea thats been floating around in my mind for a while.

Ok, well it looks like there might be some interest in a league like this. I'm going to give the concept some more thought. Right now I'm thinking of a sort of theme, where city and player names and team logos would all be a part of that theme. Perhaps one with a somewhat African look and feel to it, one that seems of this world, but not quite. One that still seems a bit primitive even though their world is going through these new changes. GMs would be allowed to make up their own team names and logos, so long as they are in the spirit of the theme. Thoughts?
As for running the league, I think I could be pretty reliable and timely (it looks like I'll soon be in only 1 other league as 1 appears to be folding soon), but I'm not so sure of whether I have the patience to do this sort of thing. I do not have any illusions that commishing is easy. In fact I'm certain it is probably very frustrating at times for any commish. However, I would like to give this a shot. I just have to figure out whether this a good idea for me. I don't want to start something and then walk away from it or have it fail in a couple of seasons. Anyways, nobody get your hopes up, I'm just bouncing ideas around in my head right now. Feel free to comment.

I'd be interested, In the USBBL the owners set up their own teams, logo's etc which was fun but it's a US only league ~ an all world league would be good
