you might wanna look into spelling and grammar before you try to join a league. Honestly though, the best leagues will be a bit leery of someone who spells any "ne" and fails to use a single punctuation mark.
Just a thought. |

I agree with Steinr, when I get requests like that one for my league I recycle them.

While I agree with the sentiments stated about the initial post, I think taking the high road and just ignoring the post is a much better plan of action. I'd never let someone who types like this in a league of mine, but I'd never rake them over the coals publicly.
Why alienate a potential customer of this game rather than just letting his post sit here and die its own death. No need to give the impression that we judge new people that harshly. Just letting it be and keeping you thoughts to yourselves is a much better way of doing things, IMO. |

Actually I was hoping the poster would take the criticism to heart and maybe take a few extra moments in his future posts.

While I got a good chuckle out of Aussie Mark's post, I think that's good advice from Cooleyvol. People who are lazy with their posts will in time probably find that they're taken more seriously when they take their own spelling and grammar more seriously. But if we alienate them from the beginning they'll likely not stay long enough to progress to that point.

I'm inclined to agree with the sentiments, but for a different reason.
My league is as a writing league. I recruited owners whose writing styles - if not perfect - were good enough that a story they wrote would be enjoyable and coherent. Having someone who replaces every third word with the letter it sounds like, and who ignores apostrophes and capitalization, would not really buy into this idea. Of course, it's moot since we're full for the moment, but I do think that first impressions - even digitally, or perhaps especially so - count for a lot more than many people think.

What are you guys like english teachers or something? All the things going on in this world and you worry about somebodys grammer i could see if he was writing for like the president or if he was in class writing for something like his future but he is not. He is only writing on a message board about joining something that doesn't even have any effect on his life. But anyways your not going to get alot of members in any league you ever run by being uptight and obnoxious.

Creating a thread on here saying you are looking for a league is advertising. You are marketing yourself. The content of your post will determine which leagues with availability will be interested. He probably can write and can spell, but his post did not flaunt this ability and thereby he has pigeon-holed himself into which leagues would welcome him.

Quite the contrary, the league I commish is simming its 30th season, the last opening we had occurred after 9 seasons and we filled it within 24 hours. I think you'll find that the most stable leagues are filled with adults who are on the average married, have kids and are middle class. Ergo they can communicate in a mature fashion. The league I commish is for fun and I simply don't wish to take a chance and possibly waste my time on an owner that can't communicate that way. Its worked for my league. P.S. From your dw4rotk, I would guess you are a teenager, you sound just like my 15 year old daughter with the 'likes' and such. If there was a 'dude' or two thrown in there I'd swear it was her.

Ok, I didn't mean to leave a bad first impression on everyone. I'm use to im's where it doesn't matter how you spell words and I am a new memeber to this site and I wasn't aware about all of this. I think I am a very good gm and I just wanted to let you all know that I do know how to type and stuff. Thank You.

If liking proper grammar and a mature form of communication is shallow then so be it. I am proud to be shallow!!!!

Pardon me, chaps. I was inquiring on whether or not any of you distinguished gentlemen had any openings in your baseball league. Poor spelling and the use of run-on sentences are extremely annoying to me; I am not interested in joining any leagues where such things are used. My interests include apostrophes, semi-colon's, commas, and the proper usage of them in sentences. If you have an openings in your league and share similar interests, I would appreciate you contacting me with the information.
P.S. What is a balk? |
