Thrilling conclusion to the 1951 PWBL World Series
The Cardinals started off the Series taking games one and two in Yankee Stadium and appeared destined to win their third straight PWBL crown. The Yankees battled back, however, to take three straight in St. Louis and a 3-2 lead. Game six was a tight affair, tied 1-1 through seven, until the top of the eighth when the Cardinals pounded out five runs and the game ended with the Cardinals winning 6-1 to tie the series at three games each. That led us to the seventh and deciding game which will go down as the best game in PWBL history.

If it hadn't been for that rain delay....it seems to have thrown Dickson of his rhythym, giving up his only hit. Oh, on what little things championships are decided...

Re: Thrilling conclusion to the 1951 PWBL World Series
Quote:
Charlie Keller makes a huge play in the 7th inning to eliminate the tying run as he guns down leadoff man Gil Hodges attempting to stretch his knock into a double. Keller will have some silverware for his trophy case when the awards cerermonies are complete.

It was certainly one of the most intense World Series's I have ever been a part of! I really am pulling for Charlie Keller to get that AL MVP this year. The award could easily be changed to the Ted Williams annual award, and finally Ted had a bit of an off year(only for Ted mind you). It appears to be Charlie's only chance at the award as he took talent hits near season's end. Warren Spahn also came up big in game 7, pitching through the rain delay, eventually getting the ball to Bobby Shantz and Closer Tom Ferrick to hold the Win. Spahn's declination of 12 and 13 million dollar contract offers signed his ticket out of Yankee stadium. It will be interesting to see what the Left-hander garners in Free Agency, and also how the Yanks go about filling his #2 spot in the rotation. Great season, Great league!
