Important Question For Long Time Commissioners
In one of the leagues I participate in, we had a computer error that directly affect the league playoffs.
For some reason, OOTP 5 used the same starting pitcher in back to back games for one of the teams. The starter went a complete game in winning the first game and was shelled in the first inning and 2/3 in the second game which was a loss. Obviously, the team losing game 2 is upset that his #2 starter wasn't used like the lineup submitted. It's true that his team lost 6-0 and that the other pitcher threw a complete game shutout...but you can't say for sure the #2 starter for the losing team wouldn't have done the same thing...or that they would have been tied late and pinch hit for the first pitcher... Have any of you ran into this in your leagues? The easy solution is to say "re-sim" but that would affect the other league divisional series.

Never saw that before.
Since we sim our playoffs "live" in the USBA, something like that would be caught before the game was run. Tough call but you can't really "re-sim"

no re-sim
it sounds harsh, but it is like a referee that makes a mistake and cost a team the game. At least it cost him just one game.... if you allow re-sim you break the 1st rule of online leagues

I've had it happen in two leagues, neither one I commissioned for the record. Neither league resimmed and in both cases I felt a resim was called for. It's the playoffs, you can't just be like "oh well'. The bullpen would have been burnt out and it effects pitcher usage for the remainder of the playoffs.
I haven't tested, but I speculate that the following set of cirumenstances occurred: 1) Team exported a lineup for first playoff sim with a rotation set on strict order. 2) Team did not export for second playoff sim. 3) Commish hit "Import All' for second playoff sim and OOTP re entered the first days lineup. You would think that the computer wouldn't take the export but I know that when I won my only WS I was succesfully able to export via e-mail during the playoffs using an file. To help prevent it in ABL Old-School; I always check over all aspects of each teams roster.

Can someone explain this?
Scroll and start reading at my first post in the above thread. I think the best way to avoid this is to delete the exports (EDIT: on the ftp site) after every sim, which I do.

I’m proud of my speculating abilities.

mistake
If only you could re-play that one series alone.
The Owners have the legitimate gripe that the commish made a mistake that invalidated one of the playoff series. The Commish knows that Owners in an online league take the risk of suffering when their commish makes mistakes. My guess would be that most commishes will re-sim if they need to, but only when necessary. |

Am I the only one who thinks the losing team got LUCKY?
Yes, it's possible a pitcher would have had a shutout too, but very unlikely, and consider that also a pitcher may have thrown a one-run game... and lost. That's a huge waste. If I got shutout, I'd be happy to save my next best pitcher for the next game. |

There are no circumstances that I can think of in which I would ever resim. League owners have to realize that sometimes crap like that will happen and it's really nobody's fault.
