Team file importing steps.

Here’s how I import team file exports in my leagues:

When it’s time to sim, I go to the league server directory that holds the owners’ exports. I note the teams with team files newer than the newest league file. Then I boot up OotP and go to ‘Team setup’ for each team with a new team file on the server. I hit ‘Import team from ftp’ and that does it. If the team’s file is invalid, I email the owner a note. I double-check each step.

kq76 has suggested that commishes delete old team export files from their leagues’ ‘EXPIMP’ folder before importing in the new files. I used to do this when my own process included my downloading the team files manually into the folder, then simply using ‘Import team file’ because I thought it might be a more reliable way to transfer the files. To save time I skip that step now and use the direct ftp transfer.

I should have been more specific, that's not quite what I meant. What I do is after a sim I delete all the exports on the ftp site (I do this because we had some overwriting problems, but it also solves this problem..). Members then download the new zip and export (because only new exports are there, it's easy to see from the export status page who has exported for the latest sim, for recording purposes). Then before the next sim I delete my EXPIMP folder (so only the new exports are included in the backup) and then I import the exports from the ftp site.

Of course people can get around this problem a number of ways, but I like my way because the only extra steps are deleting the exports on the ftp site (I'm already in there to upload files, so it doesn't take long to delete the files) and deleting my expimp folder (I don't think this step is needed to get around the problem though). I don't have to check what exports are new and then go to each team setup screen and import individually. The main thing is to just delete the old exports on the ftp site after you sim. That way when you next import you are only importing new exports and not old ones and so the teams that did not export will not go back to the same pitcher order, it will instead continue on where it left off.

I'll attach the KBL's sim checklist which some people might find helpful. There's some parts that would probably only apply to the KBL like the export recording, "KBL Utility", and "Editing the News Page" though. At the very least I'm sure it can give others ideas.

fila

Since I know which teams have new exports on the server, having checked and written it down, and import them individually, I don’t risk importing a file older than the newest league file.
