No-Commissioner Leagues

One of the leagues I'm in is seriously considering abolishing the office of commissioner and doing everything by committee. GMs who own the game would share in the simming, another owner would maintain the website, etc. Does anyone out there have any experience in something like this? It sounds wacky to me, but I guess if you get the committee to rule on league matters promptly enough, it could work.

Shortly before it died, the UBL was in a similar situation. One person owned the league in the sense that it was his webspace, one was the league founder and as former commish considered himself to be in charge, I simmed, and another kept the webpage up to date. Had the league not folded anyway, this setup wouldn't have worked.

When looking for leagues to join, I look for leagues where there is one, and only one, person in charge. That person must have a clear and concise plan for his league. I think there is more potential for problems when you have too many guys with their hands on the files, or too many guys in charge of too many different things. I’m not generally in favor of league presidents, trade committees, "Chairmen" and so on...too many layers for me.

From watching the leagues that are stable and those that aren't, it seems like a dispraportion amount of league that fail have too many chiefs.

I'm the same way...I like there to be one guy...one plan...one direction. I have no problem with there being a back up simmer if needed as long as he only runs the sim and sim activities (IE process trades, extensions ect)

This is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard of. I think I would rather be in a league run by The Fit Dog than some kind of committee league.
