FA is 30 days. Most leagues break it up into more than 1 sim and sim a different numbers of days each time.
For example, in HFTC FA Sim 1: 3 days FA Sim 2: 6 days FA Sim 3: 9 days FA Sim 4: 12 days I imagine nearly every single you look at might do it slightly different from the next, but thats the basic idea. |

Most leagues I've been a part of run several days of free agency in one sim. Teams export their offers, the commissioner sims a number of days (I've seen 2-5 days), sends out the results, then a new round begins. There are issues with this, such as some players receiving offers they like on the first day of the FA period, but no others for several days, will assume they're not getting any more offers and sign with the first team.
I've heard of other leagues simming 20 days of FA with no offers, then doing one FA day per real day for days 21-30 (or some variation of this), but I have no experience with it. There are other "house rules", such as teams can't offer players contracts longer than 5 years unless the player specifically requests it, and certain contract lengths have to be for certain amounts. Take a look at http://kbl-ootp-online.com/info.html#FAP for an example, and click through on the deal fairness link. Another option I've seen (and one I use in my league) is to allow teams to enter "counteroffers" that will take effect if their offer is not the preferred offer at the midway point of the sim. So I sim 5 days at a time, and teams are allowed to make an offer to be entered on the 1st day of that sim, and if that offer isn't the one preferred by the player, there's an extra offer to be entered. Not a very clear explanation, so here's an example: I offer Joe Smith a million for 3 years on day 1 and a counteroffer of 1.5 million for 3 years. If Joe prefers another team's offer on day 3, the 1.5 million/3 year offer is entered. There are a lot of ways to do it. Searching this forum will come up with all sorts of threads on many of them. I tried to cover a few here for you.

Thanks to both of you.
Also, one mroe question. For the players on FA, bids will be put in am I right? Like: Mets offer Jarod Washburn 2 years 6 mil and than another team can offer a 3 years 7 mil contract than Washburn will choose.. Am I right? |
