A unique league - playing baseball history in reverse

Announcing Mirror Image Baseball, a unique OOTP 6 league.

MIB is a historical hybrid league, doing the following: taking the players of the years 1901-2003 and flipping their careers and then translating them so that the players in 2003 will play in 1901 with their careers unfolding in reverse. This means that Barry Bonds is a young player with his whole career ahead of him while Miguel Cabrera, Jose Reyes, etc are veterans in the twilights of their careers. Oh, yeah- and Bonds et al are playing in the Dead-ball era.

This league was discussed to a great extent in thread below: What type of league would you enjoy most?

Some of the important facts about MIB:
No finances - we use a "point" system
No Draft - points are spent on scouting which will procure players for each team
There are four leagues - the American and National in the Major Leagues and the International and Pacific Coast in the Independent Alliance
GMs can own a team in both the Majors and the Alliance (but can't trade with their own team)
Real Markets, fictional teams, fictional stadiums
No coaches or scouts

We will vote on using either a 2-8 scale or none for talent and ratings.

If you're interested in the league, please email me at commish@legendsport.com

Thanks!
Joe

OK - so far we've placed two teams in New York (1 AL, 1 NL) and a team in St. Louis - Major Leagues. In the Independent Alliance we've placed a team in Jersey City (IL) and a team in Oakland (PCL).

Keep them sign-ups coming....

Another update - Chicago AL and San Francisco PCL added, so the lineup is now:

AL - New York, Chicago
NL - New York, St. Louis
PCL - Oakland, San Francisco
IL - Jersey City

BTW - there will be 8 teams in each league (AL, NL, PCL and IL) and with 2 New Yorks taken 1 more team can be placed there (but must play in Brooklyn).

One other feature of the league (not mentioned in rules yet, I will get it in there sometime today) is stadium building - you'll be designing (and maintaining) your yards. I want the league to have the best of a fictional league feel - your own team names, stadiums, etc - but have the historical feel in that you'll be using real players (only their careers are backward and guys like Ty Cobb won't come into the league until the 1980s).

Another team lineup update:

AL - New York, Chicago, Boston
NL - New York, St. Louis
PCL - Oakland, San Francisco
IL - Jersey City, Toronto

Still 11 slots open....

I would LOVE to join this league. Do you have own OOTP6? I plan on buying it soon, but still plugging away with OOTP4.

If you don't have to own it right away, sign me up.

We'll work something out. I don't want to turn anyone away - especially someone as enthusiastic as you seem to be.

10 slots? Are there 13 owners that haven't chosen cities yet? We're still planning on AL, NL, PL and IL with 8 teams each, right?

Latest update - 7 sign-ups, 9 slots left.

We've got:

AL - New York, Chicago, Boston, Cleveland
NL - New York, St. Louis, Philadelphia
PCL - Oakland, San Francisco
IL - Jersey City, Toronto, Syracuse, Hamilton

We're missing the IA team for one GM.

I've also posted the OOTP pages so guys can see the players. It's still in the traditional MLB format (the "real" teams haven't been deleted yet, so if you want to see Bonds, go to SF - if you want to see Clemens, go to NYY - this is based on 2003).

Hopefully the ability to see the players' ratings and such will help spur some interest in the league...

Man that's weird viewing the players and seeing guys like Greg Maddux in their mid 20's and guys like Johan Santana like 40 years old. That's gonna take some getting used to.

Believe it or not it was tough to flip their ages too because of the really, really oldsters like Julio Franco and Rickey Henderson - on my first try they came in as 15 year olds. Obviously I had to tweak my formula - now they're 17 - still very young, but not ridiculously so (Bob Feller debuted at 17 and was, to say the least, successful at that tender age).

One minor disclaimer on the player pages: I haven't yet fixed the names (Paul Lo Duca instead of Lo duca for example) and will need to tweak some of the ratings (not many of them), but I plan on doing this as we go through the draft.

I'm glad the players are generating some interest - they're the unique part of this league after all...
