Which kind of league do you prefer ?
I know we have had this kind of poll before but speaking from my own experiences someones opinion will change over the time. When I first decided to join an online league I only wanted to join real player, modern league. Now after being 18 month in different leagues I like fictional leagues and historical leagues pre 1990 the most.
What about you guys. What kind of league would you join now a days. And if you chose historical leagues maybe you could add the period of time you prefer. |

I voted historical. Favourite eras 50's to 90's.
I find modern day leagues are often the shortest lasting, for two reasons (1) they are often the leagues that attract owners with short attention spans, bad manners, and financial incompetence (draw your own conclusions as to which demographic that describes) and 2) as soon as the current players are replaced by no-name fictional rookies, many owners lose interest. I was in one great historical league (Hometown), but generally I prefer historical.

Hey Jo Modern Day, Real player just got it's first vote ! History pulling away from fictional. If this trend continues I wonder why only Real Modern Day and Fictional leagues seem to open up.

My vote
I prefer historical leagues, and I dont really care when the league starts. I started a 1900 league thats in 1903 now and I love it. Im also in a 1965 league that I have alot of fun with too. But, on the other hand, I can see the appeal of fictional leagues too. I just like getting the nostalgic feeling and also educating myself on the game so thats why iI prefer historical. OOTP is a great game though anyway you look at it and online play can make this game timeless.

I generally prefer fictional. I want to be able to make up my own mind about a player and tell his story from my perspective.

I've never liked leagues with current modern players. I started as a fan of fictional leagues back in 1999 or so with ootp3. I've since become such a fan of historical leagues that they take up the bulk of my time. I play in two pre-1900's leagues (one fictional), one 1950-60's league and commish a fictional league that started in 1901 and is now moving to 1947.

I voted fictional, but obviously, any good modern league will become more and more fictional over time and become 100% fictional. A modern league just gives you the benefit or disadvantage, depending upon your opinion, of inheriting 100+ years of already created history.
I do agree that the modern leagues will attract the most unattractive GMs, but any good league can easily overcome a few bad apples, they become nothing more than road bumps. |

The other problem with modern leagues is that there are so many teams to fill at the beginning. Fictional leagues are usually much smaller and so are a lot of the historic ones (depending on what year, of course.)

After almost one full year real time (5+ seasons), HFTC retains 22 of the original 30 owners. Yes, its a shameless plug, but if I can't prop my modern/increasingly fictional league here, where can I?

I prefer Historical leagues. Generally the 80s and 90s as those are the players that i grew up watching and those are the players that made me fall in love with baseball.
I am currently in 3 Modern Day leagues, and 1 fictional league though. Half of the battle is finding a league that is stable enough to put hours and hours of time into it. |

I used to be all about real/modern, but now I like smaller, fictional leagues. I haven't really played around with historical, although at one time I started a solo league in 1955, with curiosity about Roberto Clemente's career as the inspiration. I'd like to get into historical more, and more in the 1940s and after.

Some of each.
I'm in a three historical leagues, my original preference, 1900's, 1940's, 1980's I'm now involved with my first fictional league. Which would not be my preference except that Matt has made Time Warp as good as historical. I really wanted to play in a modern real player league as the Mets. Found one and enjoyed the first season, but then it fell victim to all the problems listed in the earlier post. |

I don't join Modern Day leagues because they just end up folding within a month or so because they are usually filled with a bunch of high school kids that are immature. Also a modern day league just ends up being a fictional league after a few seasons once all of the "name" players retire. Historical leagues are always the best and usually have the most serious owners.

Thanks for your participation guys. I didn't do this to pass the time. I'm really interested in what people right now find the most attractive. I'll keep this going 24 more hours. Right now fictional leagues took over the lead. Also interesting that most people find historical league of the 80's and 90's most attractive.
