New League Idea

I am looking into creating an online league in which that there are 20 teams. I am getting the data from the Lahman's database.

The league will be comprised of the top 20 teams of all time. (27 Yanks, 86 Mets, 69 Orioles...) Anways, the problem is that i do not want to have any player in the game twice, ie. (1936/1937 Yankees rosters).

Also I only want each team to be in there once, although i am considering putting the same team in twice, as long as they have 100% unique rosters, ie 1961 and 1996 Yankees.

To fix that, i came up with 20 teams from 1901 to present that I feel that are a great team without having any player in there more than once, and each team is only represented once. No player is in there with multiple teams. So the top 20 teams is not the real top 20 teams, but within the top 100 of all time.

Another problem is that after the 1st season, how should I run the league? Should I use fictional or real players in the draft? I am thinking of pulling in random REAL players from the database after each season. Are there any league that have something like this.

Has anyone done this before? any advice would be great.

Here is the initial list (subject to change):

1901 Chicago White Stockings
1902 Pittsburgh Pirates
1906 Chicago Cubs
1912 New York Giants
1912 Boston Red Sox
1919 Cincinnati Reds
1925 Washington Senators
1927 New York Yankees
1929 Philadelphia Athletics
1944 St. Louis Cardinals
1948 Boston Braves
1969 Baltimore Orioles
1974 Los Angeles Dodgers
1984 Detroit Tigers
1986 New York Mets
1991 Minnesota Twins
1993 Philadelphia Phillies
1994 Montreal Expos
1995 Cleveland Indians
1996 Atlanta Braves

thanks.

Mike

Sounds like a lot of complicated work ahead. Good luck though.

Looks a good idea and a fresh one and yeah would take a bit of hard work to get going, all kind of things you have to deal with like which era in OOTP would you use and also the older teams ie 1901 White Sox would have a disadvantage as they wouldn't have a farm system, but good luck with it and sure I'll keep an eye out for it.
