Interest in 1930 Cuban Winter League?
I just wanted to measure the interest in the league I am working on.
As I noted in a prior post, I have decided to create the Cuban Winter League, an 8-team league which begins play in November of 1930. The league file will be composed of real Negro League and Cuban League players in addition a limited number of real players from the Major and Minor Leagues, other Latin American countries and Japan will be imported every year. Again, please let me know if you are interested in joining this league. Here is the link to the website: http://cuban-league.com Also, please let me know if you have any ideas for the league. Please note that team owners will be able to earn extra cash by writing news articles. This money can be used to build a new ballpark, acquire negotiating rights to players from the major or minor leagues and other latin american countries and japan. Well, would the league file be available for download? If so, when?

I'm a bit confused as to how this relates to the Negro league.

Answers to qbove questions:
Question: How does this league relate to the Negro Leagues?
Answer: Many Negro League players will play in the Online Cuban Winter League in addition to players from the majors and minors, other Latin American countries and Japan. However, I will not be running an Online Negro League. Question: Will the file be available for download? The file will be available for download. I will make the file available when it is completed, but I am still a couple of weeks away from completing the file. I am still working on several pages on the Cuban League website and this explains the dead links. |

Clarification re players in Cuban league file
The Cuban Winter League will include ALL of the real Negro League players I was going to create for the Negro Baseball League AND it will also include real Cuban League players, PLUS a limited number of players from the real Major and Minor Leagues, other Latin American Countries and Japan.
To acquire Major League and/or Minor League players, the 8-to-12 Cuban League Teams will be required to pay a fee to that player's team to obtain exclusive negotiating rights. The player will then decide whether to sign with the Cuban League team. Cuban league teams will retain negotiating rights to that player for 2 years. As to the number of Major League (and Minor League) players a team may bid on per season the rule is as follows: Teams will be permitted to bid on a collection of players whose combined star rating do not exceed 8 stars. This means that a Team can bid on eight, one star players, or a team can bid on two, four star players, or a five star player and......etc. Additionally, there will be a maximum eight players from the Major and Minor Leagues that a team may have on its roster (including minor league system). BTW, I am working on detailed rules for the league and will post it when it is finished. Last edited by izman1999; 12-31-2004 at 04:16 AM. |

Historically, Cuban baseball was never segregated and it started in the 1870s, so this was the place where many of the Negro League stars and major league stars met and shared the same playing field with their Cuban counterparts.
The last pro season was played in 1960 or 61, and for many years there were only four professional teams (La Habana, Almendares, Marianao and Cienfuegos), all of them playing most of their games in the same stadium in Havana, the Estadio Nacional del Cerro (now called Estadio Latinoamericano). Very nice job on both sites. |

I couldn't have said it better myself. Prior to 1947 when Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball's color barrier, Cuba was THE place for professional baseball. In Cuba, players were allowed to compete against one another regardless of their skin color. It was a very high quality league. My league will have most likely eight (and possibly 10 or 12) teams instead of the traditional four Cuban teams. Teams will be permitted to play in a modified "La Tropical Stadium" at no cost or they can spend the big bucks and construct their own stadium. If they spend the cash on the stadium, the club will receive a boost in its fan interest rating. (I say a modified La Tropical Stadium because that park was monstrous. Even the steroid players of today would have problems jacking the ball out of that park. Centerfield was 505 feet away, while the leftfield line was 398 feet!). Regarding spots available in this league, I will most likely make teams available first to those who expressed an interest in the prior thread regarding the Negro Baseball Leagueas as was suggested in another thread. I have revamped the main page of the league (probably for the last time) and I am working on other pages of the website at this time. Check out the main page at: http://cuban-league.com Last edited by izman1999; 12-31-2004 at 03:19 PM. |

I have updated the managers page and the Inaugural Draft page. Links may be found at the bottom of the main page of the website.

Just a thought since you were asking for suggestions.
I'm not sure if there are any time-frame compatible leagues out there (in the 30s), but how abot "partnering" with one of them (USA Major Leagues) and making your top players available to them for export as free-agents for a price, or maybe signed outright by a team. This might tie in with your financials. |

If you want to look at the many players, black, white or Latin-American who played in the old Cuban professional baseball league, a good place to start is http://www.cubanball.com/

The link to the Major League's website is working as well. I created the 1930 file using the most current Lahman Database. 1930 was the year of the hitter with almost everyone batting over .300. As a result, a lot of the hitters have very high batting ratings and most of the pitchers have poor pitching ratings. I may decide to upload a new file using Ankit's modified Lahman database.

I'd like to be considered for inclusion in this league. Sounds very interesting, and will open up a fresh look at an aspect of baseball I know little about.
