How to find a league...
I think there are two types of GMs roaming the forums here looking for leagues. Within those two types are various tastes for baseball simulation gaming. We ALL fall within these two. You are either a GM with a lot of time on your hands or a GM with a some time on your hands. If you are the former:
1. You've probably done the simple leagues and moved on to more imaginative leagues or are looking for them. 2. You are in 10 different leagues at the same time. 3. You are running or want to run your own league or have run a failed league. If you are in the latter spectrum of GM's, those with not a great deal of time, you have tried your luck in some leagues and found the following to be an occurence: 1. You join a league and the league expects too much from you and you get dropped while you're out using the toilet. 2. You join a league and find out that you need a lawyer to go through the league rules for you. 3. You scour these forums and find loads of recruiting threads with links to complicated looking websites. You try a few and occasionally get hit with demands for a resume', credit report and a note from your mother. To find a league that fits you: 1. Ask yourself, "How much time do I have available for the league?" 2. Write down what you want, (i.e. historical, fictional, fast sims, frequency of sims, etc., etc.) 3. Roam the forums and make a check mark on your 'want list' when a league appears to meet that 'want'. 4. Follow a league for a few weeks and read thier forums. Get an idea of the atmosphere and how well the commissioner takes care of the league. 5. If you have a lot of time go for fictional leagues, they present more challenges and require a lot more of your time getting to know the players. 6. Not so much time? Go for real or historical leagues with players you are familiar with. 7. Some Leagues require you to email the commissioner to join the league so remember that your first impression will help you just as much as it helps the commissioner in that you should tell a little about yourself and ask questions if you have any. Be as CLEAR as possible and avoid shorthand. A positive inquiry usually results in a positive reply! 8. Be honest and use common sense when joining a league. Remember there are other GM's trying to enjoy the league. If you join, stick with it or quickly contact the commissioner to get out. DON'T EVER Abandon your team. In fact I suggest we start a thread where commissoners can post the usernames of GM's that abandon teams in thier leagues. Maybe it's not neccessary but it's an idea!
