Picture the coveted "Cooley Cap" upon your head

Playball, the league the NY Times called in a recent review, "the online league of online leagues", finds itself with a rare opening.

The Detroit Tigers, after years of stable and competitive ownership, have had their owner retire from the game. Playball is a historical league that began in the 1954 season and is currently finishing up the 1964 season.

We sim 10 days at a time. We have 16 teams as so far we have let expansion pass us by. The feeling is, if we have 16 good owners, why do we want to risk our league on 4 unknowns?

It costs $3 a season to be in this league. "Why", you might ask? "None of your business, just give me the money", I might say. But that would not be very friendly of me and as many know, I have been mentioned in the NY Times as "one of the 5 friendliest people in the online baseball world".

Your $3 goes towards the season championship prize, the "Cooley Cap". This cap is coveted by all but is worn by few. I have 3 of them, but everyone knows I cheat. But maybe you can have one. The Tigers have won 2 of them in their illustrious history.

(The Cooley Cap consists of a gift certificate from the Cooperstown Ballcap Company. They can we found at www.ballcap.com where you may choose from among 1,000's of different caps. I am not a wearer or even lover of ballcaps, but these ballcaps are absolutely fabulous.)

Our average age is probably old. Our oldest owner is old enough to be my father (and that's old) and was involved in the invention of dirt (and that's where the phrase "older than dirt" comes from). I believe he's 77. I don't know or care about who our youngest owner is. We had someone who was under 20 once, but we ate him because we like to eat our young.

Please feel free to check the league out, ask questions, and all that crap. We work on a first come, first served basis. I don't care that you have been in 33 online leagues, or that this would be your first. The idea is to have a little relaxation, a little fun, and try to win. And you must own OOTP6 (an unfortunate requirement).

There is one of those "email commissioner" links on the site. If you can find it, you can write me. If you can't find it, then this league probably would be too difficult for you. And don't reply in this thread or leave a message that you're interested. Email commissioner is your key to a Cooley Cap.

This league is fun! I only like to be in leagues that I enjoy, and the fact that I have 7 seasons in here is a testament to me not following my own rules.

I Love This League

Can't say enough good things about this league,
commish excepting. Heh....

About the commish, he's irascible but committed, quality,
timely....and one hell of a dry sense of humor.

I love this league even though my Cinci Redlegs
are a bottom feeder. C'mon and check us out....I guarantee
you won't be sorry. Plus, you might win a Cooley Cap. Sigh!

Best,
Jerry Curry

Thumbs up

Wow, I am stunned this opening has not been filled yet! Well, this is your chance to get in the league run by the cranky old coot. He's a bit abrasive, always sarcastic, and even occasionally mildly entertaining. The part you can't tell him is he does a hell of a job running the league. We like contributors not snoozers. This is your chance to jump in before I actually have enough time to find someone to join myself. Grab the spot while you can, you won't regret it.

Gee, I heard from someone who is daring to picture the coveted Cooley Cap upon his head. So these Tigers are gone.

I must say I was surprised how long it took to fill the spot. Historical league openings for stable leagues usually fill quickly. I suppose there are more leagues than people now.

Or perhaps it's my snarky attitude. I hope so. That would make me feel better.
